Your primary role is to provide technical leadership, strategic direction and proactive support pertaining to the development, deployment and assessment of programs and processes aimed at electrical equipment / systems safety and reliability throughout its lifecycle across the Suncor operating facilities (Oil Sands, In Situ, Refineries, Terminals) while maintaining compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
You will also be responsible for providing technical support to any arising major electrical issues, engineering assessments, troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis & solutions and long-term equipment improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:•Bachelor of engineering degree with 25+ years of rich experience in oil and gas / petrochemical industry with electrical power systems and equipment.
•Extensive Experience in electrical design, power system analysis and protection, maintenance and troubleshooting practices for industrial electrical systems. Able to conduct health and condition assessment on critical assets such as switchgear, motors and motor control, generators, transformers, HV substation equipment, AC UPS and DC systems.
•Knowledge in relevant industry codes and standards including CEC, NEC, IEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL, NEMA, API, NETA, IEC etc.
•Ability to perform / review power systems simulations and analyses, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting and reacceleration, arc flash, transient stability and relay coordination Studies.
•Ability to work with internal customers (engineering, maintenance, and management) as well as suppliers with an excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
•Provide functional leadership and strategic direction using OEMS processes in the Electrical Engineering discipline for enterprise-wide production units and projects to deliver top quartile performance throughout electrical asset life cycle.
•Act as the corporate Electrical Technical Authority providing corporate leadership in electrical technical risk assessments and recommendations and overall technical assurance for projects, steward the Suncor Technical Network (STEN) and enterprise-wide discipline health for electrical discipline.
•Overall ownership, sustainment and continuous improvement of Electrical Suncor Corporate Technical Specifications and engage with sites / projects to appropriately apply specifications with fit-for-purpose mindset.
•Maintain close contact with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project development to identify and implement electrical equipment strategies and reliability improvements.
•Provide leadership to reliability teams across Suncor facilities to resolve safety and reliability challenges through review and analysis of electrical asset performance data. Analyze data to identify areas for improvement with cost-benefit analysis.
•Perform Risk Assessments and develop optimized Equipment Strategies.
•Provide consultation, lead / participate failure investigations to capture and share the outcome with other facilities to avoid re-occurrence.
•Regular travel to Suncor sites for proactive engagement of site electrical teams for meeting site production and reliability targets and address long term and short term threats
Location and other Key Details:
•You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
•This is an office-based role, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
•Travel to operating sites is required to for operational support and sites are located in Ft McMurray / Edmonton / Eastern Canada / Denver
