Location: This position is onsite at the Dan E. Karn 3 & 4 located in Essexville, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Senior Mechanical Engineer assists in the development, design, and testing of new products or systems. They work with a team of other engineers, scientist, and technicians on moderately complex projects to ensure that their projects meet all relevant safety standards and specifications. The Senior Mechanical Engineer's also test mechanical and electromechanical products and systems and are responsible for the mechanical testing and maintenance of products in production, as well as testing prototypes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Design, control, and implement mechanical systems and products and serve as the primary point of contact with clients for all mechanical engineering project matters
•Manages the development and implementation of mechanical systems
•Designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving mechanical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes
•Performing a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment
•Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing mechanical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps
•Investigate and resolve project issues in a timely manner
•Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations
•Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential mechanical engineering projects and studies
•Provide technical support to other departments and personnel as needed
•Prepare specifications for purchases of mechanical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation
•Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential mechanical engineering products or projects and monitor project progress and budget, and prepare reports for upper management
•Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Continued
•Providing support to plant’s operations and maintenance departments in resolving system and equipment problems
•Assessing mechanical and turbomachinery systems in accordance with the system health assessment process
•Developing and maintaining system history for key mechanical and rotating equipment systems
•Performing system monitoring for operational and predictive trends and implementing actions to ensure reliability
•Reviewing preventive maintenance and inspection results
•Reviewing equipment and condition indicator data and evaluating repeat maintenance
•Evaluating information from operations, regulatory, and strategy organizations, etc., to identify performance issues and needs for action
•Ensuring that corrective actions are identified, justified, appropriately scheduled, and completed
•Developing strategies and justifications for equipment life-cycle management and system/component performance improvement consistent with the corporate business plan to ensure safety, compliance, and reliability which includes:
+ Problem identification and solution development
+ Development of cost estimates, justifications, and timing requirements
•Provide input to the financial planning processes
+ Maintaining short-term and long-term system plans
•Evaluating data (routine performance testing, operational trends, vibration analysis, thermal (IR) analysis, oil analysis, etc.), and taking appropriate actions based on results
•Optimizing preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and utilizing data/trends to adjust PM strategies
•Participating and/or leading root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment problems
•Providing overhaul, refurbishment planning, and shop/field oversight for equipment as needed
•Providing recommendations for spare parts inventories for system equipment
•Providing work management support
•Assisting plant to prioritize notifications and work orders
•Ensuring open work orders are appropriately scheduled to ensure system reliability
•Assisting in outage and work window planning
•Functioning as project single point of contact (SPOC) and/or sponsor for projects
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
•Analytical and problem-solving skills

•Proficient with computer-assisted design (CAD) software
•Written and verbal communication skills
•Organizational skills and attention to detail
•Strong understanding of GD&T principles
•Proficient in MS Office, with aptitude for learning new software
Education/Experience
•Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of relevant experience

[OR] Bachelor's Degree Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
Preferred Experience
•Mechanical/balance of plant and/or turbomachinery experience
•Previous power plant experience
