We have an opening for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer based out of our SE Technical Centre location. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in driving innovation, design excellence, and continuous improvement across the Company’s tools and equipment portfolio. This role involves creating design concepts, preparing manufacturing drawings, leading project planning, developing test plans, and producing technical reports. The successful candidate will also troubleshoot, analyze, and enhance existing designs to ensure performance, reliability, and safety. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll contribute directly to the development of advanced technologies while ensuring all work is delivered in a cost-effective, safe, and quality-driven manner.
- Lead design and development of innovative mechanical tools and technologies, from concept to implementation.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, analyses, and documentation in alignment with project and quality standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support engineering initiatives for Company tools and other equipment as required.
- Mentor and train colleagues to strengthen product knowledge and engineering practices across the team.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges, propose effective solutions, and drive continuous product improvement.
- Maintain accurate project and activity records, reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and Lead Mechanical Engineer.
- Support other departments with engineering expertise and project input when needed.
- Ensure all work complies with the Company’s Quality System, HSE standards, and engineering best practices.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (accredited institution)
- Minimum 4+ years of relevant engineering experience- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or eligibility for registration in Alberta
- Strong foundation in mechanical design, including stress analysis, material selection, and performance under high-pressure, high-temperature, and high-vibration environments
- Hands-on experience with mechanical design and product development lifecycle
- Strong drafting ability with excellent knowledge of GD&T
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including stress and fluid analysis tools
- Familiarity with SW-PDM Vault and revision control platforms
- Design experience with MWD / LWD and/or Mud Drilling Motors
- Field experience in oil and gas drilling operations
- Familiarity with intellectual property processes (patents, design registrations, etc.)
While being committed to design quality and process discipline, the successful candidate will have a solid understanding of machining and manufacturing processes and the ability to review and approve designs/drawings produced by technologists and draftsmen. This position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual that displays excellent documentation, written communication and interpersonal abilities. They will also need to exhibit the aptitude to learn quickly with a proactive problem-solving work ethic that focuses on quality results.
