Job Title: (Sr.) Electrical Engineering Manager
The Electrical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of the Electrical Engineering Department to design, prototype, test, and analyze hardware and software used in motor control and interfacing across residential, commercial, and industrial applications. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, strategic leadership, and people development to drive innovation, ensure product quality, and support organizational growth.
The essential functions of the job require the person, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform the following:
- Department & Product Leadership
- Direct department activities for new product development, modifications of existing designs, production process improvements, and test procedure development.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet performance, cost, compliance, and timeline requirements.
- Collaborate in a matrix organization with project management, design engineering, applications engineering, industrial engineering, and customer-facing teams to ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Strategic Planning & Innovation
- Develop and execute long-term electrical engineering strategies aligned with company technology roadmaps.
- Proactively identify and evaluate emerging technologies (AI, IoT integration, energy efficiency improvements) for application in motor control and related products.
- Promote innovation in problem-solving, documentation, patent generation, and knowledge sharing.
- People Management
- Hire, train, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team including hardware/software engineers, PCB layout engineers, assistant managers, and technicians.
- Provide mentorship, performance reviews, and career development opportunities, with emphasis on building a succession pipeline and fostering diversity & inclusion.
- Lead with confidence, motivate staff, resolve interdepartmental issues, and recognize contributions.
- Technical Expertise
- Ensure departmental proficiency in:
- Hardware: Embedded controllers (ARM core preferred), BLDC motor drives, analog/digital design, switch-mode power supplies, serial communication protocols.
- Software: Embedded C programming, interface testing, and system-level debugging.
- Compliance & Reliability: EMC design practices, component stress analysis, mains power analysis, regulatory compliance (UL, IEC, ISO), and high-reliability design
- Manufacturing: PCB assembly processes, EMS partner evaluation, design for manufacturability/reliability, regulatory testing, and automated production testing.
- Financial & Operational Management
- Plan departmental resource needs and staffing in collaboration with senior management.
- Prepare annual budgets, control departmental operating costs, and submit capital equipment requests as needed.
- Support & Collaboration
- Partner with Applications Engineering for routine customer questions.
- Provide technical expertise to Design and Industrial Engineering teams.
- Support the RMA Laboratory with electronic failure analysis.
- Other Responsibilities
- Contribute to organizational initiatives beyond the department as required.
- Champion safety and compliance in all engineering activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field required.
- 8+ years of related electrical engineering experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or management capacity.- Experience in global and/or regional manufacturing operations is a significant advantage.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a matrixed organizational structure is also highly preferred.
