The general role of the Sr. Aerial Construction Technician – Fiber Optics is stringing and maintaining fiber optic cable which includes pulling, tensioning, stranding, and spacing lines. This individual will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair overhead fiber lines. This position requires proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting. This position provides leadership in the field and is able to perform and direct more complex assignments. The work performed will be within communications and power spaces.
This individual understands each product and manages the improvement of operational efficiency. They must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces for this position.
The Sr. Aerial Construction Technician reports to the Project Manager - Fiber Optics and will work primarily out of their assigned location.
What You'll Do:
•Safely perform work in communication and energized spaces
•Inspect, mobilize, and operate a bucket truck from the cab
•Record and report the sequential foot marks by the operator or groundman
•Pull cable, strand, fiber, and lash, for extended periods of time
•Monitor cable during installs for appropriate tension during critical turning points and transitions
•Read, interpret, and modify design packages
•Complete documentation to include record-keeping, billing, inventory, etc.
•Ensure work is performed and projects are completed to engineering and design specifications
•Provide training for climbers in tasks including body placement and equipment inspections
•Lead, mentor, and train field personnel
What You'll Bring:
•5+ years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferred
•Valid Driver’s License is required
•Proficient with the following equipment: ladders, bucket truck, man lift, cable puller, and reel stands
•Small equipment experience (i.e., forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer, etc.)
•Flagger Certification required
•Traffic Control Manager Certification preferred
•Must be comfortable working at elevated heights and confined spaces
•Ability to climb poles up to 40’ using standard safety protocols
•Qualify as an Electrically Qualified Communication Lineman
•Qualify in rigging (ex. Pole Framing)
•Ability to work under minimal supervision
•Ability to inspect, operate, and mobilize a bucket truck
•Ability to apply technical expertise, evaluate problems and implement best practices
•Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalism
•Able to read, interpret, and modify drawings to determine work placement and specifications
•Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Visio
Working Conditions
•Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
•Climb poles; carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 65 pounds, as well as work with confidence on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 60 feet in the air to perform tasks in communications spaces
•Work indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditions
•Able to walk long distances
•Able to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance
