Now, we're seeking a detail-oriented Solar Operations Specialist to ensure the seamless coordination of our solar energy projects while maintaining our reputation for excellence and customer satisfaction. This position will support the solar production team by overseeing the permitting, interconnection, and our rebate processes, while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and project momentum. The ideal candidate for Solar Operations Specialist will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, can manage multiple tasks across different systems, and can collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to optimize all project workflows.
Essential Responsibilities
Interconnection & incentive program management including residential and commercial system interconnection:
•Responsible for the preparation, submission, and management of residential and commercial Net Energy Metering (NEM) applications, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and timely progression to Permission to Operate (PTO) status.
•Remain thoroughly informed of evolving NEM policies, regulations, and procedural changes, integrating updates into operational workflows and client communications.
•Responsible for managing the complete lifecycle of Virtual Net Energy Metering (VNEM) applications for commercial, multi-tenant, and shared-meter properties. Duties include preparing and submitting VNEM applications, advising clients on optimal configurations based on metering and ownership structures, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders (utilities and regulators), and ensuring timely completion aligned with construction and Permission to Operate (PTO) schedules.
•Responsible for administering SGIP (Self-Generation Incentive Program) and other applicable rebate programs, including eligibility determinations, application management, client advisement, and compliance oversight.
Permitting & Design Coordination
Coordination of permitting for residential and commercial solar/storage projects including:
•Defining scope of work, completing permit applications, submitting correction notices, rectifying expired permits, and ensuring timely issuance of approved permits
•Responsible for working directly with internal and external designers to address field modifications and resubmissions as needed.
•Responsible for working with internal team members to facilitate client conversations regarding designs on new construction projects in order to finalize and send for permitting.
Project Management & Communication
•Conduct thorough pre-reviews of new jobs in Scoop to ensure data accuracy, including interconnection requirements, rebate eligibility, and proper customer information.
•Identify potential Project Improvement Orders with relation to SGIP, other rebate programs, AHJ requirements, and interconnection regulations and coordinate with Production Manager.
•Schedule and follow up on PG&E inspections required for project close-out.
•Gather and submit required documentation for final close-out, including smoke/CO affidavits, COIs, and PTO notices.
•Communicate with customers to collect supplemental documentation and respond to inquiries about utility rates, and rebate options.
•Routinely communicate and update the Solar Production Manager and Superintendents on workflow statuses. Ensuring positive and great communication.
•Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for rebate processes and eligibility criteria.
•Send certificates of insurance upon client request and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
•Assist clients with customer-related issues pertaining to the utility/PG&E.
•Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to interconnection, SGIP, and permitting workflows.
•Develop and refine email templates and procedural documentation to align with evolving utility and regulatory standards.
Additional Responsibilities
•Maintain expert-level awareness of solar industry developments, incentive programs, and compliance mandates.
•Draft and regularly update departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).
•Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational requirements.
Qualifications
•Minimum 3 years’ experience in an administrative role in Solar and/or PG&E
•College degree preferred or equivalent experience
•Valid California Driver's License
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro, Sage 100, Google Workspace, Scoop CRM
•Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
•Strong communication abilities at all levels
•Team-oriented with ability to take initiative and ownership
