Position Summary:
The Athletic Director at Lincoln High School provides leadership and oversight for the school's entire athletic program, ensuring a cooperative, supportive, and participatory environment for student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and the community. This role is responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of all athletic programs, with a focus on promoting the physical, psychological, and social benefits of interscholastic athletics while aligning with the school's academic program, culture, and Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) goals. The Athletic Director supervises and evaluates coaching staff, ensures compliance with Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) standards, and manages all aspects of game-day operations.
What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)
•Program Leadership and Development:
•+ Establish and maintain a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the school's academic mission, culture, and KCPS goals.
+ Provide proactive and positive leadership that emphasizes the physical, psychological, and social benefits of interscholastic athletics.
+ Create short- and long-range goals for the school's athletic program.
+ Develop and implement strategies to improve the overall quality and competitiveness of athletic programs.
•Compliance and Eligibility:
•+ Ensure compliance of the athletic program with all MSHSAA standards and regulations.
+ Monitor student-athlete eligibility on a weekly basis and update the MSHSAA website accordingly.
+ Answer transfer requests from MSHSAA for student-athletes.
•Staff Supervision and Development:
•+ Supervise and evaluate all athletic coaches in the building, providing guidance and support for their professional growth.
+ Coordinate and participate in the interviewing process for coaching positions.
+ Provide professional development opportunities for coaches to enhance their coaching skills and knowledge.
•Communication and Collaboration:
•+ Communicate regularly with the District Athletic Department regarding on-site issues and successes.
+ Coordinate with the Buildings & Grounds Department to repair and maintain athletic fields and gymnasiums used for interscholastic sports.
+ Attend monthly District Athletic Department meetings concerning league business and extended scheduling.
+ Foster strong relationships with students, parents, faculty, and the community.
+ Collaborate with other departments to support and manage MSHSAA-sanctioned programs/events.
•Game Day Operations and Facility Management:
•+ Attend all home athletic contests or appoint administrative personnel to attend and supervise.
+ Ensure facilities are game-day ready, coordinating with maintenance, security, and other relevant departments.
+ Oversee the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies for all athletic programs.
+ Manage game-day logistics, including scheduling, ticketing, and crowd control.
+ Responsible for obtaining the advertising, information, printing and selling of programs or varsity contests.
•Budget and Resource Management:
•+ Collaborate with administration on the athletic department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient allocation of resources.
Explore and secure funding sources for the athletic program, including sponsorships and fundraising.
To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Qualifications)
•Must hold a valid Missouri teaching certificate
•Must have at least two years of athletic administrative experience.
•Must fulfill eight contact hours of professional development:
•+ District Level Meetings—4 hours
+ School Level Meetings—3 hours
+ Outside Meetings—1 hour
•Knowledge of the overall operation of an athletic program.
First Aid/CPR certification.
In Order to Level Up in This Role, You'll Need: (Preferred Qualifications)
Have or be in progress toward a graduate degree with an emphasis in Sports Administration, Public Administration, or a similar degree.
Physical Demands: This job requires that the employee be able to: Sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least 25 pounds.
