The Opportunity
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking for Shovel Operator at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12-hour, day and night shift schedule.

Position Shovel Operator Location
Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Mine Operations Supervisor, the Shovel Operator is responsible for full oversight of operating heavy-duty equipment in accordance with best practices and safe operating procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operates heavy-duty equipment including PC4000, EX5500, and PC8000,
- Conducts all activities safely and follows all Copper Mountain Mine safety requirements and standard operating procedures (SOPs),
- Performs other responsibilities related to the Shovel Operator role as required or as assigned by the department head.
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED),
- Formally signed off to operate a shovel,
- Experience in a large-scale open pit operation, with a strong understanding of dig faces, maintaining grades on benches, and principles of wall cleaning is an asset,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
- Possess a solid understanding of the importance of maximizing production while minimizing contamination of ore and waste,
- Able to conduct pre- and post-operational checks and complete equipment logbooks properly,
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills,
- Familiar with the BC Mines Act,
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working and driving in all weather conditions,
- Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving,
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, sitting for a prolonged period of time, climbing up stairs.
Rate of Pay
$45.80/hr.
