Job Summary:
The Shop Mechanic will assist with preventative maintenance and repairs of diesel equipment in the shop to make electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs on equipment such as excavators, loaders, trenchers, forklifts, and more.
Duties/Responsibilities:
•Perform electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical repairs as well as preventative maintenance.
•Troubleshoot issues with diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and other components.
•Determine what parts and tools are necessary to make repairs.
•Complete all required paperwork. Resolve all maintenance requests for machine inspections and work orders.
•Maintain a clean and safe work area.
•Schedule repairs and maintenance on equipment entering yard.
•Keep shop and yard organized.
•Keep chemicals and oils labeled and properly stored.
•Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Required Skills/Abilities:
•Must be at least 21 years of age, as required by the Spriggs company insurance policy.
•Technical School Certificate and 2 years of related work experience or 5 years of related work experience.
•Thorough understanding of practices involved in the use of various types of heavy equipment.
•Thorough understanding of maintenance and basic repairs associated with heavy equipment.
•Thorough understanding of safety rules and ability to safely operate machinery.
•Superior skill operating assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
•Strong leadership and communication skills.
•Excellent time management skills.
•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
•Ability to prioritize and delegate appropriately.
Education and Experience:
•High school diploma or equivalent with at least five years of relevant experience.
•Workplace safety practices.
Physical Requirements:
•Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
•Post-secondary, degree, or training a plus.
•Must be able to lift 60 pounds at a time.
Travel Requirements:
•If workload in the shop becomes light. Shop Mechanics may be asked to temporarily travel to other locations to assist with repairs.
