Summary of Position

Universal Plant Services is seeking a Shop Manager with specialization in the repair of rotating and reciprocating equipment for the petrochemical and power generation industry. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to provide organization and discipline to all shop-related functions. This position will be a key member to our operational management team.

Essential Job Requirements:

- Supervising departmental staff and coordinating production operations.

- Supervising machinists on all shifts.

- Maintaining Quality requirements.

- Maintaining a safe work environment.

- Hold production meetings and reviewing process planning as required.

- Conduct department training for existing and new operating procedures as needed.

- Maintain and control inventories to control cost.

- Tracking of employee production times and time studies.

- Tracking of scrap parts in shop.

- Ability to communicate effectively with Clients and with our internal team.

- Knowledge and understanding Lean Manufacturing or similar process knowledge to increase production is a plus.

- Hands-on management style.

- Good understanding of project management and planning.

- Ability to work flexible hours, handling multiple tasks, and meets deadlines

- Capable of preparing estimates and client proposals.

- Capable of developing and implementing a quality control program for shop related services.

- Assist the business development team with client presentations and meetings promoting shop services.

- Other related duties as assigned.

Required Education

- Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Required Experience

- 5+ years of experience in rotating equipment manufacturing and/or repair.

Required Skills

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel).

- Customer oriented and show strong motivational leadership and problem solving skills.

Physical Requirements

- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.

- Must be able to frequently climb a ladder

- Stand for long periods of time.

- Use repetitive hand motions.

- Prolonged use of the computer.

Equipment Used

- Knowledge of inspection equipment and inspection of machined parts.

- Knowledge of machine tools, manual machining and programming.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has supervisory responsibilities.
