Position Summary:
The Shear Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating industrial shearing equipment to process scrap metal and other recyclable materials. This role ensures materials are properly cut, sized, and prepared for further processing or shipment. The Shear Operator will work closely with the steel yard department and production teams to maintain equipment, uphold safety standards, and meet production goals.
- Operate and monitor shearing equipment to process scrap metal in compliance with facility standards.
- Inspect materials before and after processing to ensure they meet quality and size specifications.
- Report equipment issues or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Assist with routine maintenance and cleaning of shear equipment to ensure optimal operation.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA regulations.
- Collaborate with other team members to meet production targets and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in loading/unloading materials as needed.
- Prior experience operating industrial machinery, preferably in recycling, manufacturing, or scrap processing environments.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor troubleshooting on equipment.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to industrial machinery and recycling operations.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and material specifications.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods in an industrial environment.
