Residency Requirements:

Travel time from your primary residence to your assigned headquarters must be 35 minutes or less under normal driving conditions.

Job Summary

To perform customer service, maintenance, and service work for the operation of the electric and natural gas systems in an assigned area consisting of several towns and surround rural areas. This position will be required to reside within seventeen (17) miles from the city limits of St. Ansgar, IA.

What you will do

•

Perform all duties so that employee and public safety are insured at all times.

•

Perform any and all duties including line work on energized lines, and responding to customer calls regarding electric and natural gas service.

•

Install, remove, repair, and maintain electric service lines to customers, including the installation and removal of materials and necessary fixtures.

•

Check service, both electric and gas, in response to customer inquiries, including "no lights" and "no heat" calls; be responsible for the character of the work itself and for the serviceperson's and meter reader's contact with and treatment of the public.

•

Test for natural gas leaks on customer appliances and piping and on company meters, regulators and service equipment.

•

Locate underground facilities, both electric and natural gas, in response to requests received through the appropriate "One Call" system.

•

Read, set and remove electric and natural gas meters and regulators, and in this connection, restore service to customer's gas appliances.

•

Investigate high bill complaints, enforce the company’s collection policies, explain company rates and policies to customers.

•

Plan and coordinate the work of line employees in the construction, operation and maintenance of electric and gas facilities.

•

See that clerical work incidental to assigned tasks is performed accurately and on time and maintain accurate service records following company accounting procedures and account classifications.

•

Working on two (2) pounds of gas pressure or less from the stopcock (shut off valve) into the building for the purpose of changing out/rebuilding gas meters/regulators, minor pipe repair (residential/small commercial). And this only if City and County Ordinances/Codes allow it.

•

May stand fire watch if qualified/trained.

•

Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

Required Experience

•

High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by vocational-technical school power line degree

•

Linesman Apprenticeship Course

•

6 or more years experience in line construction, operating and maintenance work, 2 years or more of which shall have been in the Maintenance and Service classification

Preferred Experience

•
Some gas training

•

Obtain and maintain a valid CDL.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•

Must have a pleasing personality and the ability to be courteous and tactful with others, the ability to instruct and direct the work of others

•

Good understanding of line construction, operations, and related equipment

•

Must have a good understanding of electric and gas metering equipment

•

Able to understand natural gas operations, especially gas leak response and investigation, setting and removing gas meters, and other basic customer service needs

•

Knowledge to operate underground piping and wire locators

•

Ability to safely operate heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and other machinery as required

•

Read and comprehend maintenance manuals, technical instructions

•

Good verbal and written communication skills

•

Familiar with all company policies and procedures including the Safety Rule Book

•

Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR

•

Ability to read and comprehend Right To Know information

•

Ability to wear all safety equipment

•

Must be willing to accept additional training as needed to perform the required job responsibilities

•

Will be required to work irregular hours during storm emergencies and as needed

Pay Range:

$39.68 - $51.53
