Job Summary
The Senior System Operations Training Specialist, where you'll lead the development, delivery, and ongoing enhancement of the Generation Dispatch Center (GDC) System Operator Training program—ensuring compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and advancing operator excellence through continuing education.
What you will do
•Utilizes the Systematic Approach to Training method to design, develop, implement, and maintain a System Operator training program for new and existing System Operators to ensure full compliance with all applicable NERC, Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO), and Midcontinent Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO) standards.
•Designs, develops, and maintains assessment tools for each training session, while adhering to NERC continuing education requirements, to evaluate the effectiveness of training.
•Documents all system operator training activities and NERC Certified continuing education hours (CEH) to ensure all system operators maintain the appropriate NERC certifications.
•Conducts training needs assessments, including conferring with management and staff, to identify specific skills and knowledge gaps and training objectives.
•Develops and administers NERC approved individual learning activities (ILA).
•Coordinates system restoration drills and other regional training activities or events.
•Monitors information and developments in emerging technologies, trends, and training techniques while maintaining awareness of current NERC, MRO, and MISO requirements.
•Attends train-the-trainer events to improve training skills.
•Provides assistance to NERC compliance related activities, including the development and revisions of procedures, policies, protocols, or operating guidelines to maintain compliance. Provides documentation and support during the NERC compliance audit process.
•Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
•Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in engineering, communications, education, training, or related area Preferred
•Certification NERC System Operator Certification required or must be obtained within six months Required
Required Experience
•5 years of experience in the utility industry with an operational or training background.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•Thorough knowledge of electric power system operations, generation and transmission systems, SCADA applications, and NERC compliance.
•Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to deliver training materials to all levels of the organization.
•Demonstrated ability to facilitate group discussions and lead meetings and drills.
•Ability to evaluate and assess learning and adjust training materials and delivery as needed.
•Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of training operations personnel.
•Demonstrated effective planning and organizational skills.
•Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
•Ability to work in a diverse work environment.

Pay Range:
$83,000 - $115,000
This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
