Senior Surface Land Agent
Spartan is seeking an individual to fulfill the responsibilities of a Senior Surface Land Agent to join the Operations team. This role is primarily responsible for acquiring surface land for capital development programs, ensuring full regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, and maintaining proactive engagement with all stakeholders. This role can be based out Greater Red Deer Area with travel throughout Central Alberta required. While this position may be field based, the successful candidate will be supported by the team from our Calgary office.
What You Will Do
•Act as a primary liaison between surface owners, company field staff, and management to proactively address and resolve issues related to operations and daily production activities.
•Collaborate with the surface land team and a variety of stakeholders to coordinate all surface land activities for a capital program and maintenance of existing assets.
•Support the development and execution of community relations and investment programs that build meaningful, respectful partnerships.
•Negotiate and acquire surface rights agreements including leases, rights-of-way, access, water use, and road use in support of drilling and development programs.
•Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and regulations, to ensure full compliance across all surface projects.
•Assist team in preparing and submitting regulatory applications and associated documentation for land acquisition and access.
•Foster strong working relationships with government agencies and key stakeholders (e.g., AER, IOGC, County’s, Watershed & Synergy Groups).
•Support the development and execution of community relations and investment programs that build meaningful, respectful partnerships.
Who You Are
•15+ years of experience in surface land.
•Valid Land Agent License in Alberta.
•Diploma in Petroleum Land Management, or related discipline is considered an asset.
•Strong working knowledge of AER Directive 56, including knowledge of Alberta’s surface land legislation, regulations, and acquisition practices.
•Proficient in public relations campaigns and community engagement. Ability to attend several events.
•Knowledge of the key stakeholders and landowners/residents in Spartan Delta’s areas and/or working in these areas prior is considered an asset.
•Familiar with regulatory filings, consultation protocols, and stakeholder notifications.
•Proven experience with landowner negotiations, stakeholder engagement, and conflict resolution.
•Agriculture and water use background or a keen knowledge of both is required an asset.
•Skilled in vendor oversight and managing complex projects with tight timelines and budgets.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
•Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) best practices.
•Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and land systems.
•Known for sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to navigate complex operational challenges.
•Valid Class 5 driver’s license required.
