The Sr. Supervisor-QC Lab is responsible for running all aspects of laboratory safely and efficiently servicing the ASARCO Ray Mine. The Sr. Supervisor-QC Lab takes responsibility for all areas of the Ray Mine lab, including industry best practice analytical results, equipment, employees, supplies, software, training, and documentation. Supervisory duties include oversight of all analytical methods and results, scheduling staff, reordering supplies, and maintaining security standards. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a laboratory-related area and several years of experience are required.
- Sr. Supervisor-QC must ensure their employees follow industry best practices standards and safety regulations for handling analyzing and disposing of test samples.
- Supervise daily Mine/Mill/SXEW sample analysis to produce results in a timely manner.
- Supervise all lab personnel to optimize efficiency, work performance, and proper time management.
- Develop training plan to ensure laboratory personnel are properly trained and keep current with latest industry standards and technology.
- Must be familiar with analysis via flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer, X-ray fluorescence. pH and gravimetric measurements / determinations, particle size analysis.
- Follow QA/QC procedures for solid/aqueous samples. Communicate with relevant departments to determine necessary/proper analytical methods for their needs.
- Crosscheck flame AA values with XRF values. Follow trends, analyze comparison statistically, and determine potential areas for XRF calibration updates and/or alterations.
- Ensure X-ray Fluorescence calibration over time performance maintenance.
- Must have firm understanding of matrix effect implications in pressed pellet XRF analysis.
- Must have experience in X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and perform quantitative mineralogical determinations based on ore body characterization.
- Maintenance/calibration of analytical equipment: Quantify calibration materials to ensure the accuracy and precision of lab equipment. Perform preventive maintenance as needed to confirm proper operation.
- Follow performance of certified reference materials, in-house reference material, and mine sample analysis to ensure accuracy/precision of lab equipment.
- Sr. Supervisor is responsible for purchasing lab supplies or preparing ordering lists for daily operating requirements and keeping QC lab in proper working condition.
- Must ensure that all documents, information, and data collected in the lab is kept safe and archived.
- Able to cross train job responsibilities.
- Document, update, and follow all standard operating procedures (SOP), and counsel and train laboratory techs on all SOPs and workflow.
- Maintain annual operational budget.
- Optimize analytical procedures to streamline laboratory workflow.
- Promote/maintain safety and good housekeeping in the lab area.
- Maintain Kronos timekeeping for all subordinates.
- Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.

- Must have good computer skills with MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook, ASSAYNET LIMs and SAP.
- Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
- Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the entire lab operation with respect to lab priorities pertaining to the various departments within the Ray structure of operations.
- BS in Chemistry or equivalent science field within a science curriculum.
- MSHA certification required.
- Preferably an extensive knowledge of QAQC lab procedures with experience in the discipline of mining. A concentration of skills and knowledge with Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), FT-NIR, LECO sulfur analyzer, SXEW solution analysis i.e. organics, electrolyte. Knowledge of Flame Atomic Absorption (FAA), XRF, XRD, Titrametrics, and dilutions.
