The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

SENIOR SUPERVISOR, INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS


The Senior Supervisor, Infrastructure Projects, works with a team of project and construction management professionals to deliver safety driven, environmentally sustainable, and consistent results in a heavy industrial construction environment. Maintains direct and daily contact with contractor management and supervision. This role supports, coaches, trains and creates space for the entire site team to be successful.


Key Responsibilities



Area 1:



Lead heavy industrial construction projects.

Manage/coordinate daily construction activities on a multi-discipline construction projects and drive projects towards achieving realistic and achievable baseline schedule.
Understand engineering design and thrive to find a better way to execute the work by attending design reviews and provide constructability inputs, for example.
Be part of the PMO team and contribute to key project milestones including contractor mobilization, demobilization and setting temporary facilities.
Work with the construction teams including contractor supervisors and in-house resources to successfully execute assigned projects.
Comfortable taking on multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
Attend regular contractor progress meetings and daily contractor toolbox meetings.
Liaise with other site departments for shared resources and improve overall project execution efficiency, such as overseeing materials transfer from supply chain to contractors.
Occasionally act as QA/QC rep and ensure critical work is correctly performed documented to meet codes, standards, and local regulatory bodies having jurisdiction to site such as ESA and TSSA.
Support project controls and flag any early signs of schedule delays.
Foster an inclusive work environment and promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations and providing feedback and coaching.
Work collaboratively with other supervisors and ensure minimum gaps in shift transition.


Area 2:



Lead safe performance excellence.

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety rules and procedures.
Identify, support and lead health and safety initiatives, including incident investigations.
Monitor and mentor contractor supervision with a focus on safety and quality.
Lead a solution driven approach to construction execution and proactively implement safe construction principles and continuous improvement.
Ensure problems, unsafe work practices and inefficiencies are stopped and corrected, and the findings are shared with others.


Area 3:



Operational excellence.

Lead and be overall responsible for safe execution of on-site construction activities.
Work closely with project managers and align on execution priorities.
Occasionally step in as project manager on assigned projects and carry out project management duties.
Direct and coach direct reports and supervisors
Support and lead incident investigations including interface with external regulatory bodies.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves



minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents

Grade 12 or equivalent.
College diploma or university degree in a related field is considered an asset.
Journeyman trade ticket in a related field is considered an asset,
Ministry Supervisor Training considered an asset.


Work experience - Nature & Length

A minimum of 10 - 15 years of related heavy civil or industrial construction work experience with a minimum of 2 years of related leadership experience.
5 years or more of technical or supervisory experience is highly desirable.


Additional qualifications - Competency requirements

Proficient in construction planning and management.
PMP designation is considered an asset
Understand and track construction KPI’s and Labour, Equipment, Materials (LEM’s) management.
Previous exposure to contractor management on open pit mine sites is highly desirable.
Previous exposure to lean and team leadership is desirable, but not essential.
Digital literacy and experience with maintenance management systems (Oracle), is desirable, but not essential.
Ability to make effective, intuitive decisions under pressure.
Proven communication skills, both verbal, written and non-verbal.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Self-motivated individual who is driven to find solutions and strive for continuous improvement in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
