Summary:

Provides engineering technical support associated with the design, analysis, construction, and operations of CenterPoint Energy's overhead and underground transmission, substation, and distribution systems.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

•

Develop, review, and analyze basic one lines, relay and metering one lines, AC & DC schematics, SCADA diagrams, interconnection diagrams, and schematics as necessary to facilitate the design and construction of substation facilities.

•

Communicate with contract engineering firms regarding design compliance to CenterPoint Energy's standards and philosophy.

•

Prepare and review work orders and project bill of material documentation to ensure proper material is ordered in a timely manner.

•

Perform project management functions associated with contact engineering resources.

•

Support the construction, operation, and maintenance of CNP substation infrastructure through communication with field personnel and contractors.

•

Evaluate material requirements for work orders, coordinate material purchases with Purchasing & Logistics and vendors, and develop and maintain project material schedules.

•

Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors, and internal departments.

•

Interface with inspectors, engineers, construction personnel, warehousing personnel, purchasing agents, vendors and management regarding materials and standards development, procurement, and packaging issues.

Education:

•

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

Requirements:

•

Senior Engineer - Requires a minimum of five years of electric utility or power engineering experience that includes performing engineering calculations and design.

•

Must have a Professional Engineer license. A Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas is preferred or must be actively pursuing a State of Texas Professional Engineer license.

Experience:

•

Able to use a CAD equipment and software programs to provide project documentation, relay settings, event analysis, equipment commissioning, and management reports.

•

Able to use personal computer software proficiently, such as those for word processing, spreadsheets, database managers, presentations, and electronic mail.

•

Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.

•

Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings, and technical documents.

•

Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.

•

Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy.

•

Able to calculate system short circuit quantities using sequence networks.

•

Able to prioritize and schedule tasks, pay attention to detail, and demonstrate good organizational skills.

•

Able to work and participate successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.

•

Able to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues, plan activities, and meet or exceed objectives.

•

Able to manage time effectively, handle multiple tasks and priorities, operate under general direction, develop own work methods as required yet follow standard procedures and determine when management is to be consulted on unusual situations.

•

Able to communicate effectively, in oral and written form, with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.

•

Able to exercise discretion, tact, and good judgment.

•

Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, listening ability and business acumen.

•

Able to use SAP, GIS, and Microstation for technical engineering applications.

•

Able to interpret and apply the National Electric and National Electric Safety Codes.

•

Able to understand and follow electric safety principals and work safely around energized equipment and environments where CNP facilities are located

•

Able to provide and maintain a valid state driver's license and safe driving record.

•

Able to comply with all company driver safety policy requirements.

•

Able to complete assigned Emergency Operation Plan responsibility.

•

Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses and do so timely.

•
