Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to lead and project manage our interdisciplinary R&D team focused on advanced battery materials and nanomaterials research. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong project management skills to drive our research initiatives from concept to commercialization.
Key Responsibilities:
Research Leadership
•Lead a team of scientists and engineers working on battery technologies, nanomaterials, and materials science
•Establish research priorities and develop strategic roadmaps aligned with company objectives
•Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members
•Foster a collaborative research environment that encourages innovation and scientific excellence
Project Management
•Oversee multiple R&D projects simultaneously, ensuring they meet scientific objectives, timelines, and budget constraints
•Develop and implement project plans, milestones, and resource allocation strategies
•Identify and mitigate technical and operational risks
•Track project progress and communicate updates to executive leadership
Technical Expertise
•Direct research efforts in one or more of: flow batteries, electrode materials, electrolytes, nanomaterial synthesis, or material characterization
•Evaluate new materials, processes, and technologies for potential integration into product development and commercialization
•Develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges
•Stay current with scientific literature and emerging technologies in relevant fields
Cross-Functional Collaboration
•Partner with product development and industrial scale-up teams to transition promising research into commercial applications
•Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure scalability of new materials and processes
•Work with intellectual property team to identify and protect patentable innovations
•Engage with external partners, including academic institutions and industry collaborators
Reporting & Documentation
•Prepare and present technical reports, research findings, and project updates
•Author scientific publications and patent applications
•Contribute to grant proposals and funding applications when applicable
•Ensure proper documentation of research methodologies, data, and results
Qualifications
Education & Experience
•Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field
•8+ years of relevant industry experience in battery technology, nanomaterials, or materials science
•Demonstrated experience leading and managing technical teams
•Track record of successful project management in R&D environments
Technical Knowledge
•Deep expertise in battery technologies, electrochemistry, nanomaterials
•Strong understanding of materials characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, etc.)
•Experience with materials synthesis and processing methods
•Familiarity with scale-up challenges and manufacturing processes
Management Skills
•Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage complex projects
•Experience with R&D budget planning and resource allocation
•Strong organizational and time management skills
•Ability to make data-driven decisions and set research priorities
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
•Strong interpersonal skills and team leadership capabilities
•Experience presenting to executive leadership and external stakeholders
Additional Desired Qualifications
•Experience with industry-standard project management methodologies
•Publication record in peer-reviewed journals
•History of successful patent applications
•Experience with securing research funding or grants
•Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to battery technologies
