The Senior Quality Manager oversees all aspects of the business area quality functions ensuring proper deploying and resourcing necessary to execute with excellence across the five Quality Disciplines: Quality Systems & Compliance, Quality Engineering (improvement), Product Testing and Certification, Customer Facing Technical Services, and Transactional Quality (Inspection & Dispositioning).
The position requires a strong and influential leader who can drive cultural change in quality thinking / action down to the shop floor. The position also develops their team in the skill and ability necessary to achieve excellence in root cause analysis, product containment practices, countermeasure deployment with verification, Quality Wall operation and robust inspection processes and the foundations of TQM and Lean / Six Sigma.
Responsibilities
- Manage teams responsible for embedding QMS directly into plant floor operations. Ensure quality processes are intuitive, routine, and fully resourced—making QMS “the way we work.”
- Deploy Quality Engineering principles to solve internal and external quality challenges with innovative, engineered solutions. Implement mistake-proofing strategies and verify long-term effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Central Quality Technical Services to ensure customer feedback is addressed with urgency and excellence. Lead 8D problem-solving and train teams to proactively identify quality risks.
- Oversee mechanical and chemical testing processes, leveraging advanced technologies to minimize human error. Maintain ISO 17025 / A2LA certifications and benchmark lab performance globally.
- Simplify and enhance quality dispositioning processes. Build robust inspection checkpoints and containment strategies to prevent non-conforming product escapes and protect the customer.
- Minimum B.S. in Engineering or Technical Degree program is required. Preferred engineering disciplines are metallurgical/ material science, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial.
- Certification as a CQE / CQM, ISO 9001 / API auditor or lead auditor is highly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Quality or a related technical role.
- Demonstrated experience in the effective use of Quality Problem Solving Tools.
- Experience in deploying Quality within a heavy manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Proven, results-driven leader with a deep understanding of Quality as both a technical discipline and a strategic business driver.
- Strong background in executing quality processes within large-scale manufacturing environments.
- Skilled in problem-solving and coaching others in methodologies such as TPS, Lean, and Six Sigma.
- Deep knowledge of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles and their application in manufacturing.
- Professional presence in customer interactions, with the ability to defend company positions while maintaining strong relationships.
- Basic understanding (or willingness to learn) of physical and chemical metallurgy to support effective root cause and corrective action initiatives.
- Proficient in English required; Spanish, French or Portuguese as a second language is a positive.
