The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Property Tax Analyst who has knowledge and experience in Canadian property tax and a willingness to learn US property tax. This individual has the proven skills, competencies and capacity to review assessments, liaise with government representatives, and process property tax payments.
What You Will Do
•Analyze fixed assets by tax jurisdiction to determine the taxability of the assets based on each jurisdiction’s laws for those assets.
•Lead the annual rendition process for assessment reporting to municipalities and states, negotiate settlements with same as required.
•Analyze assessment valuation notices to determine reasonableness of fair market values calculated.
•Process, track and maintain property tax payments.
•Prepare assessment and taxation data for new project estimates.
•Perform on-site inspections with assessment authorities including evaluations of complex industrial facilities.
•Seek to improve tax compliance procedures by implementing best practices and efficiencies.
•Maintain accuracy and strict adherence to return filing and tax bill payment due dates.
•Maintain knowledge of property tax legislation and regulations as well as being involved with Pipeline Property Tax Group (PPTG).
•Assist with jurisdictional audit responses and other ad hoc inquires.
•Open to other work within the Tax group as opportunities arise.
Minimum Qualifications
•A minimum of 6 years’ experience in property tax matters
•Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Engineering disciplines
•Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
•Ability to travel to other company locations for meetings, inspections and conferences
Preferred Qualifications
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to interact effectively with senior management
•Strong attention to detail, and a team player with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
•Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
•Defined project management skills, with an ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
•Demonstrates ability to anticipate and proactively resolve issues
•Working knowledge of accounting and reporting standards, specifically US GAAP
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365
This position requires candidates to:
•Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada and US)
•Have and maintain a valid driver's license
