The base salary for this position is dependent upon experienc and location.
This position will be based in Portland, Oregon. Other Avangrid office locations on a in person schedule considered.
The Senior Risk Manager will report to the Director of Process and Compliance and play a key role in identifying, assessing, and managing risks across Avangrid’s Onshore Renewables Project Delivery organization. This role requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure risks are proactively addressed throughout the project lifecycle.
In addition to risk oversight, the Senior Risk Manager will lead efforts to ensure full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, electric reliability standards, and internal protocols. This includes executing approved compliance policies, monitoring adherence, and supporting the expansion of the compliance program to meet evolving regulations.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, a proactive approach to regulatory compliance, and the ability to work cross-functionally to uphold Avangrid’s Power commitment to operational integrity and excellence in renewable energy delivery.
- Implement an overall risk management process for the organization
- Prepare risk registers for key projects, track risks and mitigations through project life.
- Organize and communicate portfolio risks to senior management.
- Creating business continuity plans to mitigate the risks
- Reviewing major contracts or internal business proposals/models
- Educate wider company about risk, contingency, uncertainty around projects
- Provide guidance and reduce uncertainty during the project development lifecycle to key stakeholders.
- Ensure a complete and thorough understanding of the complexities of risk management are communicated and trained as appropriate.
- Provide risk management tools and techniques to stakeholders to ensure increased accuracy with cost and schedules.
- Provide a structured approach using risk management for decision making that is of high quality.
- Manage the daily risk management processes to ensure the application is being adhered to appropriately.
- Ensure the quality of risk management processes are maintained by auditing and verifying the metrics are continually aligned and updated, as necessary.
- Track all regulatory compliance deadlines and coordinate necessary actions to ensure timely fulfillment of requirements from Project Delivery.
- Develop mechanisms to support NERC compliance from the Project Delivery perspective.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of new policies and procedures in response to evolving regulatory requirements and reliability standards.
- Organize and manage the collection of compliance evidence from the reliability team.
- Design and enhance systems to improve compliance assurance, with a focus on automation and efficiency.
- Prepare comprehensive audit packages and actively participate in internal and external compliance audits.
- Compile and submit spot-check audit evidence, quarterly reports, data request responses, and other required documentation to Onshore Compliance Leads.
- Coordinate the completion and submission of all required regulatory, contractual obligations reports for Avangrid Power.
- Monitor emerging regulations and assess their impact on Project Delivery operations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across legal, engineering, and operations to ensure alignment and awareness of compliance obligations.- 5+ years of related experience in industry and/or risk management.
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Familiarity with renewable construction and project development preferred

- Proficient at Microsoft Office package, particularly Excel and Power Point.

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across multi-functional teams and with senior management.
- Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information appropriately
- A working knowledge of construction law, contracts, claims avoidance, insurance, and contract administration is preferred.
- Familiarity with NERC reliability, ISO, RTO, IA, PPA, IRA, CEII, Quality and Safety requirements.
- Ability to navigate and succeed in a highly matrixed reporting structure, preferably at an international company.
