Job Summary


Location: Detroit, MI

The position is responsible for managing technical aspects of project development from inception through initiation of construction with continued supporting role through start up and close out. Based on whether the job is assigned to a site location or supports the Project Management Office, day-to-day responsibilities and key skills may vary. Biogas industry experience is essential particularly in the areas of dairy and landfill gas processing, anaerobic digesters, landfill collection systems and project execution. Power industry experience is a plus, particularly in the areas of engines, turbines, and electrical interconnect. Work involves performing difficult and complex services requiring a high level of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures. Must live within a commutable distance from DTE's Detroit, MI headquarters, however, the majority of work will be done remotely.


Key Accountabilities

Screen projects to determine technical viability

Ensure that personnel safety and environmental awareness are incorporated in design
Facilitate development and review of Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) specifications and drawings
Prepare formal RFP packages and manage competitive bidding processes, including evaluation of proposals and selection of contractors and vendors
Develop cost estimates and expenditure forecasts for management review, if applicable
Review, manage and organize project documentation including technical specifications, calculations, and drawings to ensure protection of owner’s technical and financial position
Coordinate performance test procedure development and evaluate performance test results
Coordinate contractors, consultants, engineers, vendors, and government agencies to complete projects within schedule and budget
Coordinate contractors, consultants, and vendors activities in support of assigned projects or in support of a project manager.
Perform technical due diligence activities in support of acquisition efforts.
Travel within the continental United States; expected to be about 10% to 30%, depending on the stage of project implementation, and may increase to >75% during startup
Perform all other related duties as assigned


Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, with 8 or more years of experience as a project engineer, project manager or construction manager.


Other Qualifications


Preferred:

Licensed Professional Engineer and/or Project Management Professional

Capable of performing conceptual facility design balancing safety, effective operation, and capital costs
Working knowledge of gas modeling for both dairy and landfill RNG projects


Other Requirements:

Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
Possess strong presentation skills
Working knowledge of MS computer applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project in a Windows environment
Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
Capable of working alone or as part of a team without a significant level of supervision
Ability to manage budgets, project costs and scheduling
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Capable of promoting and maintaining strong, positive relationships with coworkers, suppliers, contractors, vendors, engineering firms, and customers
Willingness to share expertise and knowledge with other team members for the benefit of the entire company
Willingness to acquire new technical skills
Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees may report to both a functional leader and a business leader

Use computers with exposure to video display terminals; and some repetitive motion associated with data entry, the use of a computer mouse, and while using other office equipment
Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

The employee performs job duties primarily in a work from home capacity and periodically from a climate-controlled office environment, with a moderate noise level. However, on an occasional basis the employee may be required to travel to project sites where noise levels and environmental conditions may vary.
