Teck is looking for a highly motivated, collaborative and commercially adept Senior Project Geologist to deliver success in a discovery-focused, Exploration Evaluations role, based in Vancouver, Canada!

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, Exploration – Canada/USA, the Senior Project Geologist is responsible for the identification, evaluation and recommendation of new, high-quality projects within Canada and USA by supporting or independently identifying, analyzing and actioning third-party farm-in, acquisition, and investment opportunities. This outstanding individual will work closely with existing subject matter experts and internal project generation geoscientists to upgrade Teck’s discovery portfolio in the region.

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced exploration professional with strong technical skills in ore deposit geology, mineral system thinking and exploration targeting. The successful candidate possesses a results oriented record in mineral exploration with prior exposure to, or significant curiosity about project acquisition, portfolio management and/or commercial transactions in mineral exploration. A proven ability to assess and integrate third party and pre competitive technical and commercial datasets, coordinate resources, evaluate risk and make conclusive recommendations is highly desirable. Specific exploration experience and expertise in Porphyry Copper, Magmatic Ni-Cu-PGE and/or Sediment-Hosted base metals systems is required.

Responsibilities

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Support opportunity evaluation, recommendation and capture from various sources (e.g third party submittals, project generation activities, news tracking) at all stages of the exploration value chain throughout Canada and USA
Collaborate with project generation teams to identify new discovery opportunities for management consideration
Compile, integrate, interpret, and assess geoscientific and commercial datasets to make definitive recommendations to the Exploration management team
Stay abreast of technical research into relevant geoscience and ore deposit studies and integrate key takeaways into project appraisals
Maintain a broad network of industry, government and academic contacts to gain technical and commercial intelligence to assist in the capture of new opportunities in a timely manner
Champion a culture of teamwork and innovation across all constituents and partners and encourage cooperation and open communication
Contribute to internal team technical development via formal and informal communication, training and knowledge sharing
Promote and incorporate the company’s dedication to health and safety, sustainability, the environment, and ensure Teck’s standards are met in the region


Qualifications

A minimum of 8 years of geoscience experience is required, including significant experience in greenfields exploration, project generation and/or project evaluation
A university degree or equivalent experience in geoscience or a related field is required. A relevant, advanced degree (MSc or PhD or equivalent) is preferred
Professional registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) is required
Exposure to early-stage and development-stage project evaluations, including understanding of resource evaluation, economic modeling and commercial concepts is preferred
Proficiency with GIS (ArcGIS Pro) and 3D modelling (Leapfrog Geo) software
Understanding of approaches to constraining range of mineral endowment potential on exploration project
Understanding of business priorities; able to visualize future potential opportunities and anticipate risks
Effective collaboration skills working with dynamic teams
Driven by results with excellent organizational, planning, self-management, prioritization and decision-making skills
Experience in working on Porphyry Copper, Magmatic Ni-Cu-PGE and/or Sediment Hosted base metal systems
Familiarity with North American geology and metallogeny
Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience working with a broad range of people
Advanced written and oral English language skills is required. French, Spanish or other language skills considered an asset
Ability to travel within Canada and the USA

Salary Range: $119000.0 - $147000.0

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
