We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for a self-sufficient professional who thrives both independently and within a team environment, possessing a strong ability to work autonomously on complex tasks while collaborating seamlessly with others. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing their own workload, taking initiative, and confidently engaging with clients to understand their needs and deliver tailored engineering solutions. This role also involves business development and proposal support, working with clients across various sectors, including renewable energy, transmission, and utility providers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Client-Centric Delivery: Engage with diverse clients (renewable developers, utilities, ISOs/RTOs) to understand their unique requirements, participating in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and technical committees (e.g., IEEE, CIGRE) to maintain alignment with industry trends and standards.
•Independent Analysis & Technical Expertise: Conduct in-depth load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonics, and stability analysis using industry-standard tools, taking ownership of complex technical studies with minimal supervision.
•Specialized Power Studies: Independently perform TRV, TOV/effective grounding, insulation coordination, and substation grounding studies, delivering reliable insights that enhance system safety and performance.
•Renewable Project Modeling: Lead network-level studies (N-0, N-1, transient stability) and model development for renewable energy projects, including congestion assessments and sensitivity studies, bringing a proactive approach to both individual tasks and team collaborations.
•System Design & Optimization: Design and analyze power systems—generation, transmission, and distribution—with a focus on optimizing reliability and efficiency, working both autonomously and as part of a team to achieve project goals.
•Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed, accurate technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, and presentations, showcasing both technical proficiency and clear communication for client engagement.
•Site Support & Client Interaction: Conduct site assessments and oversee power systems installation and commissioning phases, engaging directly with clients to provide insights, updates, and solutions that align with their objectives.
•Collaborative Project Work: Work closely with other engineers, project managers, and stakeholders across North America and globally to drive project success, balancing self-directed work with effective team engagement.
•Compliance & Standards Adherence: Ensure compliance with interconnection requirements and NERC standards, supporting system studies from bid/proposal stages through execution, client meetings, and close-out.
•On-Time, On-Budget Results: Take responsibility for delivering high-quality project outcomes on time and within budget, combining technical expertise with client-focused service.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Degree in Electrical Engineering from a program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
•M.Sc or PHD in power systems is an asset.
•Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer or equivalent Canadian professional agency required.
•PE license is considered an asset.
•5+ years of experience in power systems engineering, including experience with design, analysis, and troubleshooting.
•Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
•Proficiency with PSSE, PS-CAD and ETAP is required.
•Proficiency with CDEG, CYMCAP, Power factory considered an asset
•P&C or Substation design experience considered an asset.
•Ability to manage multiple assignments with tight timelines.

Pay: $115,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
