We’re looking for Senior P&C Field Engineers
with expert-level experience in substation testing, commissioning, and relaying to support high-impact electrical infrastructure projects across the U.S. This role leads hands-on testing and repairs, including commissioning of new substations, verifying relay settings, and maintaining control and communication equipment. You’ll also support design projects, lead field crews, and contribute to a high-performing, safety-first culture that powers the grid.
What You’ll Do
- Lead testing and commissioning for substation protection and control systems, including electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relays
- Perform relay calibration, voltage and current input verification, functional testing, and SCADA metering validation
- Commission pilot channel equipment such as power line carrier, transfer trip, fiber optics, CVTs, line tuners, and line traps
- Troubleshoot and repair protection and control systems in existing substations
- Perform wiring checks, site walks, and commissioning reviews for design upgrade projects
- Interpret and apply three-phase power system theory and protection & control schemes
- Read and follow detailed wiring diagrams, schematics, and electrical drawings
- Operate and interpret test equipment, meters, and diagnostic tools with accuracy
- Document all test data, maintenance activities, and field repairs in detailed reports
- Supervise field crews, delegate tasks, and ensure safety, quality, and project alignment
- Promote and enforce strict adherence to company and industry safety standards
- Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians
- Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
- Use test equipment software and hand tools to support field work effectively- 8+ years of hands-on experience with commissioning, relay testing, panel checkout, and troubleshooting - 5+ years leading system integration projects and coordinating relay settings
- Strong knowledge of SCADA, SER/Fault Data, and integration/automation testing
- Familiarity with power system design, protection & control schemes, and substation operations
- Strong ability to interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
- Advanced troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage multiple project deadlines
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting and communication
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- Willingness to travel up to 70% across the continental U.S.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screening
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Available for extended and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
- Must be able to lift 50+ lbs., work at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather- Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
- Direct experience in commissioning new substations and supporting relay upgrades
- Strong background in SCADA/fault integration and automation projects
- Demonstrated leadership on multi-crew job sites or large utility installations
- TWIC card
- NETA certification or equivalent credentials
