As a highly skilled Senior Optical Systems Applications Engineer, you will drive the successful integration of Luminus's cutting-edge LED and Laser products into our customers' innovative optical systems, including optical design validation through simulations using raytracing software. This role involves conceptualizing new and innovative LED and Laser solutions to enable next-generation optical system designs, such as mini/micro LED arrays for automotive headlamps and UV curing, hybrid LED-Laser modules for RGB projection displays, and high-flux density LEDs for micro-optics/light guides in life science applications. Your expertise in optics, thermal, electrical, and mechanical design will be crucial in optimizing system performance and ensuring compliance with industry standards. You will collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams and external partners to drive technical sales and marketing efforts, providing comprehensive pre- and post-sales application support across Luminus's product portfolio, contributing to design wins and revenue growth.
- Utilize raytracing software tools (e.g., LightTools, Zemax, Speos) to perform optical simulations and validate the design-in of LED and Laser products within customer optical systems.
- Provide guidance and consult with customers on optics design concepts and solutions to optimize their optical system performance.
- Conceptualize new and innovative LED and Laser products with optimized primary optics to enable next-generation optical systems in applications that use mini/micro LED arrays, hybrid LED-Laser modules, and high-flux density LEDs.
- Provide expert technical support to Luminus customers, addressing field application issues, system performance troubleshooting, system solutions design-in support, and ECO-system partner management in collaboration with the sales organization.
- Create technical collateral in cooperation with the product marketing team, including application notes, white papers, PowerPoint training modules, performance calculators, Help Center articles, and reference designs that demonstrate the value proposition and competitive advantage of Luminus products for target applications.
- Support the marketing team by conducting competitive advantage analysis to strengthen sales efforts.
- Collaborate with Marketing to shape product definitions by proposing innovative solutions based on customer feedback and specific use cases.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing to define technical training sessions for Luminus sales teams and channel partners.
- Develop customer demos that effectively promote key features and benefits of our products.
- Guide internal cross-functional teams responsible for LED characterization, competitive analysis, and failure analysis.
- Assist in the RMA process by evaluating if the customer's application conditions surpass the data sheet specifications.
- Generate design files required for customer design activities.
- Bachelor's degree in optical engineering or a related field.
- At least 7 years of direct experience in designing optical systems with LED or laser products.
- Proven expertise in designing complex optics using raytracing software tools such as LightTools, Zemax, Speos, and TracePro.
- Demonstrated expertise in LED and Laser die and packaging, coupled with a strong working knowledge of primary and secondary optics system-level design, LED and Laser quality/process validation, and the technical aspects of LED and Laser lighting products (thermal, electrical drivers, optics).
- Systems expertise to understand and address customer system needs and requirements.
- Creative problem-solving skills for challenging technical issues.
- Excellent technical writing skills, with attention to detail in authoring technical documentation and presentations.
- Successful track record in working with dynamic international teams across time zones.
- Self-motivated with a successful history of working with cross-functional teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally.

- Prior experience in the general illumination, specialty, or automotive lighting markets.
- Experience with optical test equipment, such as Everfine, Ocean Optics, and Instrument Systems.
- Familiarity with programs like Zendesk, SAP-CRM, Omnify, Asana, Confluence, and Atlassian-Jira.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, SPICE, and AutoCAD.
