Senior Operator - Wolf Recovery Facility (WRF2)

The Opportunity

Under the general direction of the Lead Operator, this Senior Operator position is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the Wolf Recovery Facility (WRF2) and associated pipelines. For the initial term, this position will be based out of the WRF1 facility to allow direct training and gain a thorough understanding of the facility while construction progresses at the WRF2 site. This position must regard safety as a priority while focusing on operating efficiencies, budgets, worker competency, governmental and industry regulation compliance while contributing to the Wolf work team.

This is a full-time permanent camp-based position at WRF2, working 7 days on / 7 days off, alternating between days and nights. Transportation to site is provided from major airports in Western Canada or via pool vehicles from select locations to the Fort McMurray area. WRF1 & 2 are located within 100 km’s from Fort McMurray.

Key Responsibilities

- Responsible for commissioning, startup and ongoing operation of the new WRF2 facility

- Shift Operator, as defined by Recovery Superintendent

- Complete knowledge and understanding of the plant process and sub-systems

- Identify and respond quickly to process upsets while maintaining operations best practices, safety of facility and to minimize plant downtime

- Report any health, safety, security, or environmental concerns through HSE management system incident reporting

- Capable of operating all HMI systems efficiently. Troubleshoot and communicate process deviations and upsets

- Properly identify, report and communicate plant equipment and safety deviations through Work Orders, Hazard ID’s and Operations Log

- Participate in procedure review/development, safety bypass, lock-out and tag-out and the operations training program

- Have a thorough understanding of the plant Emergency Response Plan and be competent in the role of Incident Commander in absence of the Lead Operator or Superintendent

- Must understand plant economics with regards to NGL recoveries and facility power consumption

- Ensure operations staff complete assigned tasks; Work Orders, Safety Checklists, Job Hazard Assessments, Critical Job Checklists and issuing of Safe Work Authorizations for tasks performed in the plant

- Assist and participate in EHS meetings, inspections and all other EHS requirements

- Ensure contractor work is performed as per Wolf, EHS and Site-Specific Practices

- Consider all aspects of tasks and ensure safety and due diligence before issuing authorizations

- Ensure all equipment is safe to work on before work commences by confirming lock-out and tag-out is complete, and zero energy isolation is achieved

- Remain competent in inside and outside operations through yearly review of operations procedures, operations training program

- Provide mentorship and on the job training to operations staff to allow increased knowledge and advancement as outlined in the operations training program

- Complete competency testing of junior operators as per the operations training program

- Provide vacation coverage for the Lead Operator if requested

- Participate in Project & Turnaround Planning as required

- Ability and willingness to provide operations coverage at both WRF I & 2 facilities

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

- Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate

- Power Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma’s, Gas Process Operations Certificates, Power Engineering 3rd Class and/or similar technical education is considered an asset

Experience:

- Minimum 5 years operations/maintenance experience in the oil and gas industry

- Preference given to candidates with direct control room gas processing and NGL recovery facility experience

- Leadership, supervision, commissioning and facility startup experience is considered an asset

- Health, Safety and Environmental safety training and experience

Skills:

- Good organizational, communication, computer and administrative skills

- Results orientated with the ability to work without supervision and can manage many concurrent indirect activities

- Technical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex operational issues

- Valid Class 5 Driver's License

- This is a safety sensitive position and requires pre-employment drug & alcohol testing
