As a part of the Technology & Innovation Team the Sr. Scientist Mineral Processing role will empower you to contribute to the research and development of new or improved mineral processes, with a focus on processing High-Purity Quartz and other regional industrial mineral opportunities. The objective of a Research Scientist in Mineral Processing job is to manage the research, develop and improve industrial processes to maximize efficiency for both new plants (greenfield) and existing plants (brownfield).
Your Impact in This Role
As a Sr. Scientist Mineral Processing your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
•Develop Mineral Processing research initiatives for High Purity Quartz and other industrial minerals, defining technical roadmaps.
•Drive innovation and contribute to intellectual property development, including patents and new technologies in all mineral processing associated fields (i.e., comminution, classification, concentration, gravity separation, froth flotation, magnetic, and electrostatic separation, etc).
•Work with universities, industry, and research institutions to advance technical knowledge and secure project support.
•Design experimental methodologies and conduct laboratory research, interpret results, and perform process simulations and mass balance calculations.
•Investigate mineral recovery improvements through data analysis and advanced mineral processing techniques.
•Develop and evaluate conceptual flowsheets for new and optimized processes, including laboratory and pilot-scale testing.
•Document research findings, prepare reports, and contribute to technical publications.
•Support junior researchers and mid-level scientists by sharing expertise and fostering technical skill development within the team.
What You Bring To The Table
•A strong safety mindset is essential. We prioritize a safe and healthy work environment as a key pillar of our sustainability strategy. Going for Zero is Sibelco’s global safety initiative aimed at eliminating workplace injuries through safe plants, safe systems, and safe behaviors.
•Minimum of 10 years of experience in mineral processing, either in industry or research. A PhD or equivalent qualification with a background in mineral processes is required.
•Demonstrate ability to apply technical expertise while effectively managing research or industrial projects.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
•Strong multivariable data analysis and use of advanced statistical tools.
•Fluency in the local language and written and spoken English.
