Reporting to the Senior Director, Sustainable Development, the Senior Manager, Special Projects, manages high priority projects and provides strategic direction on matters related to regulatory affairs, environment and social governance and site environment . The Senior Manager, Special Projects, works closely with the Senior Managers of Regulatory Affairs and Environment and Social Governance and the Environmental Manager to ensure the goals and objectives of the overall Department are coordinated and achieved, while providing leadership or support where needed on special projects as they are identified by the Senor Director and the Vice President of Sustainable Development, Environment and Health & Safety. The Senior Manager, Special Projects also works closely with the Community Strategic Development, Projects, Operations and other Departments to execute on identified special projects, or to provide support in the normal course implementation of Company goals and objectives. The Senior Manager, Special Projects will also interface with external groups including Inuit Organizations, federal and territorial governments, industry advocacy groups and others.

Main Accountabilities

- Project Management & Execution

- Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of high-impact, cross-functional projects (e.g. review and update of the Environmental Management System in preparation for Steensby construction and operation).

- Ensure projects align with corporate goals, timelines, and budgets, especially those focused on sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

- Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., Projects, Operations, Community Strategic Development, etc) to ensure the seamless execution of projects.

- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

- Ensure projects comply with environmental and social regulations.

- Support the preparation of applications and reports for internal leadership, regulatory bodies, and sustainability disclosures.

- Track and report on project KPIs.

- Sustainability Policy Alignment

- Support the execution of the company’s sustainable development policy.

- Evaluate special project proposals against sustainability objectives and compliance requirements.

- Stakeholder Engagement

- Oversee the corporate stakeholder management system (Staketracker) ensuring that data is updated, managed for QA/QC and mined to meet corporate reporting needs.

- Support the development and implementation of engagement strategies with local communities, Indigenous groups, government agencies, industry advocacy groups and NGO’s

- Ensure special projects reflect stakeholder input and meet local regulatory and cultural expectations.

- Support consultation processes and prepare communication materials as needed.

- Innovation & Best Practices

- Research and introduce innovative technologies or practices that enhance sustainable and cost-effective outcomes for the department and company (e.g., remote monitoring, renewable energy integration, circular economy).

- Benchmark against industry best practices and apply continuous improvement methods.

- Risk Identification, Mitigation & Growth

- Identify regulatory and ESG-related risks and develop mitigation plans for special projects.

- Conduct environmental and social impact assessments as required.

- Budget & Resource Management

- Develop and manage project budgets and resource allocation.

- Track expenditures and ensure cost-effective use of resources.

- Provide general support and expertise for the department in developing requests for proposals and contractor scopes of work

- Capacity Building & Internal Collaboration

- Provide guidance and training to internal teams on regulatory and sustainability-related initiatives.

- Promote regulatory and sustainability awareness across departments involved in project delivery.

- Data Collection & Analysis

- Oversee the collection and analysis of environmental and social performance data relevant to special projects.

- Use data to support decision-making, performance tracking, and external reporting.

- Performance Monitoring & Evaluation

- Set performance metrics and conduct regular evaluations to assess project success.

- Recommend corrective actions or optimizations as needed.

- Other duties as assigned.


Main Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, environmental science, resource management, or related field

- Master’s Degree in Engineering, environmental science, resource management, or related field Preferred

- At least 10 years Experience in working with and/or leading special projects in the areas of regulatory compliance and/or ESG

- Direct experience with the Environmental Assessment processes in Canada-Preferred Experience in negotiations, regulatory reporting, permit development and closure security management. Experienced in mining operations.

- Proficient in MS applications (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook, Projects)

- Experience with EPCM and/or permitting

- Ability to work pro-actively and with limited oversight

- Ability to work to tight timelines and under pressure

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff, clients, and consultants.

- Ability to communicate and interact with government officials (both verbally and in writing).

- Ability to effectively communicate with Inuit communities.

- Leadership skills

- Results-oriented with strong project management and analytical skills.

- Flexibility to travel to remote northern locations, as required (10-15% travel).

- Strong ability to provide assessments and opinions related to permitting in a group setting.

- Ability to work pro-actively and with limited oversight

- Ability to work to tight timelines and under pressure
