About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Global Supply Chain, and working closely with the VP, Major Projects, the Senior Manager, Projects Procurement is responsible for leading the development and execution of procurement strategies for Centerra’s projects. This role delivers tailored solutions to meet the unique needs of individual mining projects while promoting a consistent project delivery approach aligned with Centerra’s policies and overall objectives. The position works in close partnership with Corporate, Project, and Site stakeholders to ensure value is delivered across all project phases, including exploration, development, operations, and care and maintenance. The Senior Manager is accountable for both the direct execution of highly strategic procurement activities and the oversight of work performed by temporary team members, including EPCMs, independent contractors, and consultants. This position is a hybrid role based at our Toronto, ON office, however we are also open to considering candidates located throughout North America.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Strategy Development & Execution:
•Lead the creation and implementation of procurement strategies tailored to individual mining projects. Balance agility and risk management while proactively addressing complex challenges through expertise and innovative problem-solving.
Contracting:
•Oversee the full contract lifecycle, including bidders list preparation, pre-qualification, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, award, performance management, change control, claims/dispute resolution, and close-out. Ensure alignment with project schedules and budgets.
Subject Matter Expertise:
•Develop well-researched business cases and recommendations, supported by benchmarking and market analysis. Present with clarity and impact, applying a holistic, value-driven approach. Utilize a variety of commercial models and relationship frameworks to maximize value. Apply deep knowledge of contract law and industry standards to lead contract drafting and negotiation.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement:
•Mentor stakeholders in the Corporate Supply Chain and Projects organizations, focusing on project delivery which optimizes value while observing project constraints. Manage any temporary staffing, as needed by the Major Projects team, to deliver project’s procurement services demands. Proactively address and resolve conflicts between internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration and open communication.
Best Practices & Standardization:
•Establish and promote procurement best practices across all project stages. Maintain and curate a central repository of tools, templates, and resources to support consistency and efficiency.
Governance & Compliance:
•Ensure all procurement activities align with regulatory requirements and company policies. Maintain high standards for bidding and contracting processes, with accurate, auditable documentation and timely reporting.
Risk Management:
•Identify, assess, and mitigate procurement-related risks throughout the project lifecycle, implementing proactive monitoring and response strategies.
Continuous Improvement:
•Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, and streamline contract management practices.
About You
The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:
•Post-secondary education in business, finance, supply chain, law, engineering, or equivalent required.
•Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in contract management in a Major Projects team environment with cross-functional relationships.
•Advanced knowledge and experience within the contracting function.
•Strong negotiation, oral and written communication skills.
•Experience required in mining (strongly preferred), EPCM, construction, or engineering sectors.
•Experience in SAP is preferred.
•Project Management certification is preferred.
•Extensive knowledge of procurement processes, policies, and best practices.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
•Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
•Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
•Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
•Proficiency in MS Office and procurement software.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
