Onward Energy has deployed Workday as its enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform and is now focused on optimizing it and integrating it into day-to-day operations across the company. The IT Applications Manager will own the full portfolio of enterprise applications, including the ERP and adjacent business systems, and drives adoption, integration, data quality, reporting, and continuous improvement in partnership with business and technology leaders. This role sets application strategy and roadmaps, governs demand, manages vendors, and ensures reliable, secure, and scalable application services that enable business outcomes.
- Own the strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle for all enterprise applications (ERP and non-ERP) across Finance, HR, Operations, Commercial, and other functions.
- Establish and lead governance for intake, prioritization, and delivery of application enhancements, fixes, and projects.
- Define and monitor KPIs/SLAs for availability, performance, and user satisfaction; drive continuous improvement.
- Serve as ERP product owner; lead stabilization, enhancements, and release management.
- Partner with business leaders to expand ERP adoption and standardize processes; ensure effective change management.
- Provide high-quality ongoing end-user support, including training, job aids, and maintaining a robust knowledge base to ensure effective application use.
- Develop and govern reporting and analytics capabilities in partnership with Data/Analytics teams; oversee critical operational and management reporting needs.
- Oversee application integrations and data flows; partner with architecture and security teams to ensure resiliency, scalability, and security.
- Promote common data definitions and data quality across applications; support master data and reference data governance.
- Ensure appropriate controls, testing, and documentation for changes impacting integrations and data.
- Lead internal and external teams (implementation partners, managed services) to deliver reliable, cost-effective application services.
- Negotiate and manage software and services contracts, and track vendor performance against SLAs and outcomes.
- Establish incident/problem/change management practices aligned with ITIL/modern service management.
- Ensure application security, access controls, and compliance requirements in partnership with Cybersecurity and Compliance.
- Proactively manage risks; drive remediation plans and root-cause analysis for recurring issues.
- Provide clear direction, coaching, and development for a high-performing, customer-focused application capability (mix of employees and partners).
- Champion business support and strong stakeholder engagement.
- Communicate status, risks, and value delivered to executive and business stakeholders; align technology work to business outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree required – Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline. Advanced degree (i.e. MBA or MIS), Six Sigma training or Certification is a plus. Energy experience a plus.
- 10–15 years of progressive experience leading enterprise/business applications, including ERP post go-live ownership and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated track record to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence
- Understand interdependencies between technology, operations and business needs.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills including the ability to lead up, across and down multiple business and technology organizations.
- Ability to navigate shifting priorities and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation) and interpersonal skills.
- Sound understanding of ERP such as Workday; experience with collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
- Knowledge or exposure to cloud infrastructure and migration, and integration with various software solutions.
- Self-motivation and the drive to effectively own your responsibilities and continually enhance your abilities.
