What is a Senior Manager – Engineering Standards & Compliance?
The Senior Manager – Engineering Standards & Compliance is responsible for ensuring our electric and gas systems are designed effectively and reliably, while upholding the continued compliance of our operations. Through managing construction standards, operations and maintenance procedures, and policies, the electric and gas systems are designed, built and operated and maintained in a consistent manner – thus providing work efficiency and ensuring the safety of our employees and the public.
What does a Senior Manager – Engineering Standards & Compliance do?
- Oversees the creation, modification, revision, and approval of engineering construction standards, operating and maintenance procedures, and policy documents
- Drives alignment with gas and electric department standards, O&M’s, and work methods in support of company strategic initiatives
- Ensures the Company’s compliance with FERC, NERC, PHMSA, DOT, and other regulations
- Manages the Gas Compliance and Reliability Compliance teams, including documentation and audit support
- Drives the implementation and rollout of key elements of a Safety Management System (SMS), leveraging the API 1173 framework
- Supports and oversees gas integrity initiatives and compliance, including distribution integrity, transmission integrity, and cathodic protection
- Collaborates across departments throughout the Company, including Asset Management, Engineering Design, and Operations to incorporate feedback from the business as needed into standards and compliance documentation
- Builds and mentors high-performing, cross-disciplinary teams, promoting collaboration, innovation, and professional growth while cultivating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Provides support for storm/emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Senior Manager – Engineering Standards & Compliance?
Required- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering or a related engineering field of study and 5+ years of related engineering/utility experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and drive organizational change
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels
- Must be able to travel as required (e.g. Albany, New York City, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license
- Professional Engineer license
- Experience with utility design standards
- Experience in NERC/CIP and PHMSA regulations and compliance
