Coterra is hiring a Senior Landman with experience in Lea & Eddy Counties in New Mexico
Job Summary Coterra is hiring a highly skilled Senior Landman with at least 5 years of subsurface land experience in New Mexico, specifically in Lea and Eddy counties. This role is ideal for a professional with extensive experience working Federal, State, and fee owned minerals, including, but not limited to, lease negotiation, title examination, drilling unit preparation, communitization agreement preparation and land management. Furthermore, Federal and State regulatory compliance experience is required. The successful candidate will focus on asset development that directly supports Coterra’s drilling schedule, leasehold interests, and subsurface land transactions. This position reports to the Land Manager and is located onsite at our Midland, Texas office.
- Manage all exploration subsurface land matters related to federal, state, and fee minerals covering an area of responsibility in Lea and/or Eddy counties, excluding Production and OBO
- Coordinate and maintain compliance with BLM, NMOCD, SLO applications, policies, and procedures
- Analyze, negotiate, and manage oil and gas leases, assignments, joint operating agreements, farmouts, and other mineral-related agreements
- Conduct and interpret mineral title, including curative and chain-of-title analysis
- Support drilling and development teams by verifying drill site control, drill site and production readiness, and lease and contractual obligations
- Monitor lease terms and drilling obligations to ensure timely extensions and rentals
- Work to grow the asset via acquisitions, trades; along with SLO and BLM Land Sale
- Ensure accurate land and leasehold records are maintained in internal systems
- Must have subsurface experience in New Mexico, specific to Lea and Eddy counties
- Experience preparing/completing the necessary land tasks to effectuate a rig line on a drilling schedule
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and fee mineral leasing
- Experience interpreting title opinions, unit agreements, and spacing regulations
- Familiarity with HBP status, lease expiration tracking, and depth severances
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and negotiation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Land Administration, or a related field preferred
- RPL or CPL certification is a plus.
- Minimum of five (5) years of subsurface land experience in New Mexico
- 10% - 15% Travel will be required for mandatory meetings, training and visits to field locations
Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. Incumbents must be able to perform work which includes typing, sitting, and standing. In the event the incumbent visits operations worksite, personal protection equipment, including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing are required. Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced. Employees must be willing to travel and work extended hours with short notice.
