We are seeking a full-time, permanent or contract Senior Instrumentation Engineer or Technologist with 10 or more years of industrial instrumentation experience, including at least 5 years in a lead or checker capacity. This role is ideal for an professional who has led instrumentation scopes on brownfield revamps and greenfield developments—and who is eager to bring technical depth and mentorship to our growing team.
You will lead and perform the full lifecycle of instrumentation design deliverables—from concept through commissioning—on major industrial energy projects. The position combines hands-on technical work, vendor coordination, and project leadership in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
- Prepare, peer-check, and approve instrument data sheets, sizing calculations, and material requisitions.
- Develop and issue P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook-up details, control narratives, shutdown keys, cause-and-effect diagrams, and construction work packages.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency across all instrumentation deliverables at each formal issue stage (IFR / IFA / IFC).
- Integrate instrumentation requirements within 3-D models and interdisciplinary design reviews.
- May serve as the primary instrumentation contact for clients, project managers, and vendors.
- Coordinate with automation and control system teams to align PLC/DCS I/O assignments, network architecture, and interface points.
- Issue technical inquiries, conduct bid evaluations, and participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) for instrumentation and control equipment.
- Monitor scope, budget, and schedule, identifying any required change notices to the Project Manager.
- Plan and conduct site walk-downs, loop checks, and pre-start-up reviews.
- Resolve field queries promptly and coordinate as-built documentation.
- Support commissioning and start-up teams to ensure seamless transition from design to operation.

- Mentor junior engineers and technologists, delegating work packages and providing peer reviews.
- Maintain and refine discipline standards, calculation templates, and digital design libraries.
- Champion workflow improvements that enhance quality and reduce cycle time from mark-up to issued drawing.
- Promote instrumentation solutions that support energy efficiency and emissions reduction goals.
Your success in this role will depend on your ability to:

- Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (advanced degrees an asset); or Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology.
- Eligible for P.Eng. registration with APEGA or C.E.T. registration with ASET.
- Minimum 10 years of industrial instrumentation design experience, including 5 years in a lead or checker role.
- Proven record delivering instrumentation scopes for oil & gas, renewable energy, or industrial facilities.

- Advanced proficiency in instrument sizing, specification, and integration within multidisciplinary environments.
- Strong working knowledge of industry standards and digital design tools.
- Experience preparing bid evaluations, overseeing FATs, and collaborating on PLC/DCS integration.
- Based in Calgary, Alberta (minimum 4 days per week in office).
- Occasional travel (up to 10 %) for site visits, FATs, or commissioning support.
- Must be able to safely navigate industrial environments and wear required PPE.
