DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a Senior Human Resources Business Partner for a 12–18-month term to join us in the exciting work we do in the Human Resources Department. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, you’ll be responsible for supporting business strategy alignment, employee lifecycle management, HR program and project support, and change management initiatives. You will provide expert advice, consult on organizational structures, facilitate investigations, and manage recruitment, onboarding, performance assessments, and employee transitions
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibility Area #1 – Business Partner Support and Consultation
•Coach and influence management to align company initiatives with employee understanding, covering business strategy and innovation.
•Offer constructive feedback and coaching to employees and leaders, foster trusting relationships and navigating difficult conversations to influence outcomes.
•Provide expert-level advice, interpret complex Corporate Policy and external employment laws, guiding business on collective agreements and managing unionized environments.
•Consult on organizational structures and HR-related processes, supporting redesign around strategic objectives.
•Apply change management methodology to initiatives impacting employees, supporting necessary change management efforts.
•Advise on Company HR policies, procedures, and Programs.
Responsibility Area #2 – Employee Lifecycle Management
•Collaborate with hiring managers to identify recruitment needs and source top talent, participate in interviewing, selection, and offer processes.
•Coordinate job description and evaluation processes as needed.
•Work with leaders to establish onboarding and learning plans, supporting employee growth, development, performance, and succession planning.
•Support career development and provide guidance to leaders.
•Facilitate investigations into human rights/equal opportunities in collaboration with the Labour Relations COE, aiding in HR-related legal case preparations.
•Assist with employee offboarding to ensure smooth transitions, including conducting exit interviews.
Responsibility Area #3 – HR Program and Project Support
•Plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, and report on HR programs, policies, and processes, ensuring alignment with business needs and corporate consistency.
•Design succession plans for key talent and critical positions in partnership with the business, aligning with the company's overall succession management philosophy.
•Provide communication and direction on annual performance assessments, engaging leaders in performance calibration.
•Identify training needs, facilitate workshops or information sessions on HR Programs, and present to employees at all levels.
•Assist leaders and employees with development plans, goal setting, and improvement plans, offering consultation on performance concerns and performance improvement.
•Act as a liaison for ATCO EnPower to ensure information is communicated to functional HR to inform HR strategy, program design, and planning.
•Facilitate employee and manager information or training sessions for programs as needed.
•Collaborate with the Disability HR COE and Health & Safety teams to manage complex aspects of the disability management program, return to work, and accommodation assessments.
Responsibility Area #4 – Change Management
•Support managers and employees through change management initiatives.
•Gauge employee engagement and provide insights to leaders, implementing feedback processes to improve engagement (e.g., employee pulse surveys, focus groups, exit interview results).
•Identify change management requirements and impacts associated with projects, proactively working with leaders.
•Develop mitigation plans (e.g., change plan, communication plan, training plan, resistance plan) to enhance project success and employee buy-in.
•Provide support during crisis situations to ensure business continuity and contribute to business continuity planning.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
•Minimum of a post-secondary degree in Business, Human Resources or related discipline.
•Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in HRBP role working as a strategic advisor with the business.
•Comfortable working independently.
•Strong business acumen and strategic sense, including sound problem solving and decision-making skills.
•Strong skills in MS Office suite; experience in Oracle Cloud is an asset.
•Positive attitude toward changes and continuous improvement; ability to develop new ideas linking HR to best practices and efficiencies.
•Ability to engage, have difficult conversations and influence outcomes while maintaining strong trusting relationships, Strong conflict resolution skills.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including, written, verbal and presentation, and customer service skills.
•Ability to role-model collaborative leadership skills.
•Strong time management skills and ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities.
•Ability to adapt and change in line with business requirements.
•CPHR Designation is an asset.
•Experience working with employee associations or unions is an asset.
This position is starting in July 2024 located at ATCO Park East-04 in Calgary - five days a week in the office.
Travel: Occasional travel to field locations will be required.
