Job Description
Primary Purpose
In charge of trading a portfolio of natural gas assets in support of Sempra's power plants and customer obligations. Responsible for optimizing the portfolio through knowledge of natural gas markets, pipeline tariffs, and balancing capabilities.
Duties And Responsibilities•Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
•Trading and optimization of cash-to-term natural gas portfolio utilizing both physical and financial instruments.
•Support the origination function by providing timely and accurate quotes and structured transactions
•Ensures that all scheduling processes (nominations, confirmations, etc.) take place in a correct and timely manner with regard to pipeline and department deadlines.
•Daily marking and reconciliation of the books with Risk Management
•Initiates and maintains daily spreadsheets.
•Analyzes deliveries of gas supplies and communicates with suppliers, pipelines and plant operators to resolve delivery issues and optimize receipts.
•Works with the Portfolio Optimization Center to buy/sell gas as needed to assist in optimizing our natural gas fleet.
•Understands tariff requirements of various pipeline/utilities supplying our facilities with particular attention to balancing requirements.
•Maintains compliance with all FERC rules and regulations.
•Provides internal reports as needed for tracking gas purchases and deliveries.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
•7+ years' experience related to natural gas trading or equivalent training and/or experience.
•Knowledge of economic, financial, and physical principles governing natural gas transactions. Knowledge of natural gas systems and constraints. Knowledge of credit matters and risk management principles.
•Ability and willingness to work early morning trading hours (5AM PT). Able to work a rotating “on-call” weekend shift and cover additional shifts during co-worker absences.
•Knowledge of natural gas markets, including market principles, trends, behaviors, counterparties, natural gas pipelines, transaction practices, scheduling procedures, and other operational requirements.
•Good understanding and use of optimization models, scheduling interfaces, databases, spreadsheets, and other computer-based systems.
•Good analytical, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Ability to work on a closely integrated team.
•Refers to policies and practices for guidance.
•Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
Preferred Qualifications
•Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
