The Impact You'll Have
As a Senior Environmental Specialist / Senior Environmental Engineer, you'll have the chance to ensure transportation and land development projects are constructed in a way that is compliant with permitting requirements and protects the environment for current and future generations. Your experience will be utilized both in the field in collaboration with contractors and regulatory agencies, as well as in the office guiding the design and permitting approval for future construction projects.
Responsibilities•Serve as the Contract Environmental Compliance Officer (CECO) for large transportation design-build projects during pursuit and construction. This role requires collaboration and consensus building among contractors, public agency representatives, and regulatory officials to mitigate environmental issues on projects and ensure compliance with permit requirements.
•Assist in and/or lead the writing of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for construction projects.
•Lead erosion control inspections to ensure projects comply with environmental permitting requirements. Work with contractors to anticipate and prevent erosion problems caused by rainfall events.
•Provide guidance on restoration efforts for areas damaged by erosion or other environmental factors.
•Lead or assist with securing permits for future construction projects, including NPDES Permits, Watershed Permits, DNR and USACE permits, and contaminated materials related permits.
•Assist Wetland Professional staff with wetland delineations and permitting.
•Assist engineering staff with design of turf establishment, erosion control, and occasionally stormwater best management practices. This includes development of design details and writing of special provisions.
Required Qualifications
•BA or BS in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, or related major
•Minimum of 7+ years of experience, preferably working with road or land development projects in design, construction, or permitting
•Strong knowledge of civil construction practices and applicable environmental regulations. Ability to interpret civil construction plans, specifications, and schedules
•Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, organization and multi-tasking skills
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
•Excellent technical, written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
•Licensed as Professional Engineer or Professional Soil Scientist in the State of Minnesota.
•Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) and/or Certified Professional in Storm Water Inspection (CPSWI).
•Erosion Control and Stormwater Management Certification from the University of Minnesota in areas of Construction Site Management and SWPPP Design.
•10+ years' experience working with road or land development projects in design, construction, or permitting.
Physical Requirements
•Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and uneven terrain
•Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs

The base salary for this position is expected to be in the range of $85,000 - $125,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
