This role is the top progression level position in the Engineer series. Includes senior to technical expert engineers able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Provides guidance to less experienced Engineers. May serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Staff Engineer 8+ years of relevant engineering experience position is the top progression level position in the Engineer series.
Senior Engineer 5+ years of relevant engineering experience position includes senior to technical expert engineers able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter and significant experience within functional assignment area.
Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Requires ability to serve in a Project Management role supporting specific phases of major projects including site development, permitting support (air, water, state, local, etc.), scope development, contract negotiations (equipment, engineering or EPC), engineering, procurement, construction and daily management of project activities. Supports development and management of major project budgets and schedules. Projects ranging in size from major complex projects to smaller improvement projects in existing generating facilities. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards. Ability to provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. Provides guidance to less experienced Engineers.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering theories, principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related field.
- Full Knowledge of business/financial and contractual matters.
- Provides expert technical advice to other engineers and management in assigned area.
- Skilled in the use of advanced engineering techniques.
- Strong planning and project management skills.
- Ability to develop, manage and monitor project performance to ensure results meet project requirements and schedules.
- Ability to coordinate the resolution of technical problems and implement changes.
- Ability to work and develop rapport with all levels of management and staff.
- Strong technical and organizational leadership skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
- In depth knowledge of various computer applications with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g., Matlab, Excel, etc.).
- Proven decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply codes, regulations, and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Equally effective working independently or in team environment
Must possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET.
