Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) are the requirements followed by the AESO and Alberta market participants to provide for the reliable operation of the Alberta interconnected electric system (AIES). The AESO recommends the adoption of ARS that are based on North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) reliability standards, as well as other ARS that amend, supplement, or replace NERC standards.

Reporting to the Manager, Standards & Modelling, you will coordinate and guide cross-functional teams to develop ARS for Alberta’s electricity industry. To succeed in this position, you will require knowledge of high voltage facilities, transmission system operations, and protection & control systems to lead and participate in stakeholder engagements with external industry working groups.

This full-time opportunity offers a competitive salary, and a variable pay program. We also have paid vacation and flex time, health and dental benefits, mental health support, a defined contribution pension plan, and learning and development opportunities as part of your overall compensation package. We support a hybrid work environment, where the team is in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays are flexible for where you work best.

You will enjoy working with us if:

You value flexibility to support life and personal needs. We offer a flexible work practice where some weeks may require more onsite presence during key business or operations events.

You thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and are looking for an opportunity to embark on transformative industry change.
You enjoy working in a team of bright professionals and participating in lively debates.
You appreciate working and learning in a diverse atmosphere - our team and colleagues have varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
You embrace change and pivot and adapt with ease.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Lead the development, implementation, and sustainment of ARS, including ARS that are a part of the AESO’s recently announced Reliability Standard Sync Up Project; ensure effective reliability standard integration in Alberta.

Keep informed and provide updates of NERC and WECC developments related to reliability standards.
Provide support through the implementation and compliance monitoring phases of the ARS project lifecycle, including responding to stakeholder questions and drafting information documents.
Support internal research and analysis projects related to proposed new ARS.
Coach, work review, and mentorship to junior professionals.
Lead large projects or processes related to ARS with limited supervision.

What you’ll bring to us:
