The Utili-Serve Engineering Services organization is responsible for providing innovative, sustainable, and reliable engineering solutions that help our clients meet their objectives and contribute to the development of an ever-growing energy sector. Utili-Serve Engineering services cover a broad spectrum from standalone utility electrical designs or studies to full turnkey substation design and construction.
Position Summary:
This position is for an Electrical Engineer who prepares engineering studies, calculations, and detailed designs for substation and generation projects. Primary job responsibilities will be focused on the application of engineering knowledge to create completed designs packages. Experience with generation/substation equipment, operation, and interface requirements is beneficial. Licensed engineers may be placed in responsible charge through all phases of the project.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Participate as a member of the project team to support all phases of major projects, from initial project scoping and development to final project close-out.
•Prepare design documentation including but not limited to calculations, specifications, drawings, bill of materials, and cable packages. Participate in design reviews of prepared documentation.
•Correctly identify and apply requirements to designs. Ensure documentation aligns with project requirements, contract, applicable codes/standards, and design criteria.
•Develop testing and commissioning plans to ensure projects are designed and implemented to meet functional requirements.
•Conduct walkdowns at substations and/or generating stations to support design and commissioning activities.
•Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
•Develop excellent working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
•Apply effective oral and written communication skills. Maintain accurate records and files.
•Assist in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
•Assist in evaluating contract bids and making recommendations to higher-level engineers regarding feasibility studies.
•Mentor junior level engineers.
•Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field of study from an accredited college or university.
•Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an Electrical Engineer or similar discipline in heavy industry, construction, power systems, utility, or related industries to include substations and generation (e.g., gas, hydro, nuclear).
•General computing experience including use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. Experience with CAD and analysis software.
•Experience with major projects including the principles of project management.
•PE is preferred in SC, NC, GA, or VA.
General Information:
This role may be onsite, hybrid, or remote. Applicant is desired to be able to attend field walkdowns and inspections when necessary and attend design review meetings as applicable. Specific arrangements to be coordinated with the hiring manager.
