POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for an embedded controls engineer to join our Digital Solutions team to support design, development, and implementation of our edge/embedded controls and monitoring solutions. This role will work with cross-functional engineering teams, including teams based in Korea and abroad and will have a deep expertise in designing and implementing high-performance real-time systems that are fault-tolerant and capable of real-time data processing.
This is a critical role focused on ensuring robust, continuous operation of systems that manage and protect the integrity of power monitoring and control processes within the renewable energy industry. RESPONSIBILITIES
•Design and develop embedded control software for energy management systems, microgrids, and distributed energy assets
•Architect and implement gateway solutions for site-level integration of devices, sensors, and grid interfaces (e.g., 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Modbus, CAN, BACnet)
•Develop and integrate optimal control strategies (e.g., peak shaving, load shifting, grid services participation) into embedded controllers
•Lead real-time data acquisition, edge computing, and local analytics implementation
•Ensure secure remote management and over-the-air update capability for deployed devices
•Collaborate with hardware, cloud, and application teams to define system-level architecture
•Interface with utilities and grid operators to support evolving standards (IEEE 2030.5, OpenADR, SunSpec, etc.)
•Coordinate with third parties to assist with embedded system design and architecture
•Collaborate with DevOps/SRE teams to establish continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines with automated testing and rollback mechanisms
•Work closely with hardware, QA, and cross-functional software teams to align on requirements, timelines, and quality standards
•Contribute to implementation of containerized environments for embedded software deployment
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•5+ years of experience in embedded systems/controls, renewable energy systems, or data center applications
•Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, embedded systems, control systems, or a related field
•Experience with embedded Linux systems and various programming languages
•Understanding of embedded systems architecture and controller design principles
•Ability to interpret schematics and system block diagrams
•Proficiency and experience in programming embedded systems, microcontrollers, microprocessors, and real-time operating systems
•Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
•Availability to interface with international teams, including Korea and India (flexible hours or limited travel may be required)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Experience with Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing
•Awareness of cybersecurity or networking principles in embedded control systems
•Familiarity with Azure cloud environments and architectures
•Fluency in the Korean language
•Familiarity with SCADA and edge platforms such as Ignition
•Data science, optimization, and AI/ML experience as applicable to edge devices and embedded systems
•Familiarity with power system modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, ETAP, Typhoon, PSCAD, PSSE, PSLF
•Expertise in SCADA systems, industry-standard protocols such as MQTT, Modbus, DNP3, OPC, IEC 61850

The salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications.
