Hardline Engineering is currently looking for a Senior Distribution Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Distribution Program Manager, the Senior Engineer will provide hands-on leadership, mentorship, guidance, and oversight within the Distribution Team. The Senior Engineer will be responsible to develop new designs by applying knowledge of electric utility systems and their operation. The Senior Engineer will perform quality reviews of project deliverables and maintain client relationships. They will deal directly with clients to establish service requirements and provide solid design solutions and alternatives that meet client needs.
- Lead design and development of distribution projects (new extensions, upgrades, and feeder enhancements).
- Ensure compliance of all designs with applicable regulations, codes and client standards, AEUC, CSA Overhead and Underground, and Canadian Electrical Code.
- Implement design solutions to mitigate safety, environment and technical risks throughout the project and facility lifecycle
- Oversee distribution project execution from planning through commissioning, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Provide field engineering support during construction, addressing design issues and adapting to site conditions.
- Perform quality control through audits and inspections to ensure compliance with design and safety standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their growth in design and field engineering.
- Engage and collaborate with stakeholders, including end-use customers and utility client teams, to coordinate project delivery and provide outstanding customer service.
- Lead smart grid and automation initiatives to enhance grid efficiency and reliability.
- Perform load flow, stability, and fault analysis using industry-standard software (e.g., CYME, ETAP).
- Conduct load forecasting and capacity planning to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
- Conduct reliability assessments to identify and address system vulnerabilities.
- Execute arc flash and short circuit studies to ensure personnel and equipment safety.
- Develop and optimize protection settings for devices (fuses, reclosers, relays) to ensure coordinated system operation.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering from a program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
- Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer or equivalent Canadian professional agency required.
- 4+ years of detail design experience in Distribution for Utilities within North America. ATCO, Fortis, ENMAX, SaskPower, EPCOR & other Canadian utility experience would be an asset.- Utility design experience or distribution line work considered an asset.
