Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Design Specialist-2D/3D Structural Designer opportunity to support the Savannah River Site. Work Location: Aiken, SC Application Deadline: 05/06/25 (by noon ET) Senior Design Specialist-2D/3D Structural Designer - Duties:
•Develop designs for complex engineering systems.
•Prepare drawings and technical reports.
•Participate in the development of design standards and procedures.
•Perform technical review of design documents and specifications.
•Provide engineering services support to construction activities.
•Prepare and review design standards and procedures.
•Prepare construction installation specifications and details.
•Prepare procurement specifications and bid analysis.
•Review and approve Design Change Forms.
•Resolve existing design discrepancies with the most cost-effective approach to meet design criteria.
•Initiate Design Change Forms and coordinate with Subcontractors or other responsible group for approval/incorporation.
•Provide dispositions to Nonconformance Reports and Field Problem Memos by determining a solution to the condition which will satisfy design criteria.
•Perform inspections by facilities, systems, or components as required for proper evaluation of conditions.
•Review construction procedures to ensure compliance with design engineering criteria and applicable codes.
•Perform in-depth analyses of advanced technical concepts and devises new approaches to technical problems.
•Provide 2D/3D Structural Design staff augmentation support to SRNS. Primary responsibilities include design development, and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Concrete buildings and foundations; Structural steel for supports, platforms, and buildings; Rebar detailing; Steel detailing; Preparation of fabrication drawings; Review of vendor documents; Commodity supports.
Education & Years of Experience:
•An associates degree in a technical discipline and at least 10 - 12 years’ work experience or 12 - 16 years of practical work experience
Skills:
•Requires an in-depth knowledge of engineering systems, applications, calculations, materials, construction methods, and relevant computer applications.
•Applies advanced principles and practices in engineering to resolve problems identified by construction organizations in a timely manner.
•Continued updating on new technologies and hardware in the industry is necessary.
•Must demonstrate 8 years of experience as a Structural Designer including experience with structural detailing and design of building structures and commodity.
•Knowledge of 3D structural modeling and experience using 3D Modeling using Hexagon’s S3D software is required.
•Must have working knowledge of National Codes and Standards for structural design.
•Must be able to perform field walk-downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed (these walk-downs may involve Construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances over a half mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, dressing out in protective clothing and environments where a respirator is required).
•Must have the ability to produce quality documents with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years.
•Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience.
Other Job Requirements:
•Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance (an active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties).
