If you are passionate about these missions, and are passionate about disrupting technologies that will change the world as we know it, then AirJoule is the place for you! We are a joint venture between GE Vernova and AirJoule Technologies. Our revolutionary atmosphere water harvesting technology enables both dehumidification and transformative cooling, while also producing clean and decentralized water for industrial, commercial, and humanitarian purposes. If you are a highly motivated and experienced individual who wants to make a real-world impact, please apply!
AirJoule is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to support our Design Engineering team, which is building our transformative atmospheric water generating products. This role requires expertise and hands-on experience in mechanical engineering design and building, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM). Significant expertise with CAD programs is required. The successful candidate will participate in a design team which is primary based in Newark, DE. The role will also involve the transition of initial builds into manufacturing procedures.
To perform in this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Component and system design:
Design and/or select components such as vacuum chambers, doors, actuators and motors, vacuum tubing and insulation, fans and plenums, heat exchangers, pumps, pipes and coolant, electrical wiring, scaffolding, pallets, and walls, etc…
- Subsystem Design:
Design and develop subsystems which utilize the components and enable AirJoule products to reach highest performance. Example systems are vacuum transfer systems, heat exchange systems, air handling systems, water purification and storage systems, etc…
- Full system layout and product shaping:
Design the layout of the full system. This will involve structuring subsystems to balance performance, footprint, serviceability, and ruggedness.
- Optimization of design:
Utilize various methods ranging from first principals and hand-calculations to simulation software (FEA/FIM/etc with programs such as Ansys, Solidworks, etc…) in order to optimize performance while conforming to industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Prototyping and testing:
Develop prototypes and conduct subsystem testing, and analyze results to validate designs and iterate improvements based on performance data and feedback. Work with Applications team to perform similar on full systems.
- Bill of materials (BOM):
Create and maintain detailed BOMs, ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness while selecting materials and components optimized for performance and manufacturability.
- Design for manufacturability (DFM):
Apply DFM principles to streamline production processes, reduce costs, and enhance product quality and scalability.
- Support builds:
Hands-on participation in prototype builds as well as facilitation of transfer of build to manufacturing teams for full production.
- Documentation:
Generate detailed design documentation, including CAD models with tolerances, technical drawings, and specifications, to support manufacturing and regulatory compliance.
