Under the direction of the Director of Planning & Procurement, the Senior Buyer is responsible for managing and completing complex purchasing projects independently. The Sr. Buyer sources and purchases materials, parts and components after careful review and analysis of closed and forecasted sales ensuring quality, on-time, and cost-effective procurement.
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Manages complex purchasing projects independently, including materials sourcing, data analysis, purchasing, troubleshooting and on time delivery for production
- Ensures the supplier base supports the growth strategy and profit goals of the company
- As a technical expert, assists and trains other employees as needed
- Adjusts the production/work schedules as needed to reflect availability of materials or parts, and customer priorities.
- Runs MRP status reports and analyzes data for adequate levels of materials to meet projected production needs.
- Ensures the purchase of the highest quality materials, parts, components, or services at the most cost-effective pricing
- Checks on materials and parts shortages and expedites as needed.
- Records supplier non-conformances in the central database and follows appropriate corrective actions per departmental procedures. Discusses and/or shares results with key suppliers on a regular basis.
- Processes returns for defective materials and parts. Expedite replacement materials and parts.
- Processes inventory adjustments according to departmental procedures.
- Sets up part numbers for purchase items as needed, including pricing, costing, lead-time, supplier, and MRP planning information.
- Sets up part numbers for manufactured items as needed, including costing, manufacturing lead time, MPR planning and routing information.
- Assists with the establishment of supplier managed, or consignment inventories.
- Enters and maintains accurate data into the MRP system
- Assist in reconciling invoice and receiving transaction discrepancies.

- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field preferred
- 5-7 years of previous Purchasing experience in a manufacturing setting required
- Familiarity with the Steel industry highly preferred.
- Project management skills required
- Advanced Excel skills preferred
