Under the specific direction of the Broadband Technologies Network and System Operations Manager this role must provide technical, administrative, and operational support for the SELCO broadband and data center services. The Network Administrator’s primary role is to assist with construction, installation, operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, and general support of the data center and NOC networks for SELCO. This includes but is not limited to the internal data center network, edge routing networks, and the subscriber facing networks.
- Responsible for installation and maintenance of any necessary network security systems and/or hardware. This includes but is-not-limited-to the management of internal and external facing firewalls.
- Responsible for racking, wiring, programming of new broadband technologies/systems.
- This position assists in the management of colocation sites for intercontinental network connections. The understanding of peering services and edge routing protocols is required.
- Design, develop, and implement systems and processes to monitor and track performance of SELCO subscribers including Internet, WIFI, video, email, and telephones. Alert responsible parties in the event of projected, anticipated, or observed abnormal system conditions or degradation of service.
- Calix Systems: including but not limited to CMS, SMx, Service Cloud, Operations Cloud, Command IQ. Includes but is not limited to: network configuration, routing protocol configuration, VLAN delineation, troubleshooting, system upgrades, security enhancements, firmware management, workflow protocol management, new feature deployment, database management, user management, user deployment assistance, training, and direct escalation assistance, research and development.
- NOMS Systems: ISP provisioning, troubleshooting, system upgrades, Linux database administration, new feature deployment, Observium, Grafana, Cartographer, user management, training, and direct escalation assistance.
- Provide secure and confidential data for subpoena requests.
- Responsible for SELCO Subscriber DNS records: FQDN, CNAME, Recursive DNS, etc.
- Calix Systems: including but not limited to CMS, SMx, Service Cloud, Operations Cloud, Command IQ. Includes but is not limited to: network configuration, routing protocol configuration, VLAN delineation, troubleshooting, system upgrades, security enhancements, firmware management, workflow protocol management, new feature deployment, database management, user management, user deployment assistance, training, and direct escalation assistance, research and development.
- Serve as a primary interface between the Helpdesk/Cable Technicians and the Broadband Technologies Network/System Administration team.
- Builds and/or maintains documentation of data center and NOC networks, fiber backbones, RF combining, racks distribution and data center system topologies.
- Implementation of SELCO cable HFC’s plant upgrades system including: Headend RF combining, HFC plant nodes, CMTS routers, OLT/ONTs, and VOD Distribution system.
- Performs status monitoring of RF and data performance for headend systems. Reports and/or conducts repairs to discrepancies against baseline levels.
- Trains SELCO personnel on system changes and on system implementation.
- Provide technical support escalation to Tier Two Help Desk Technicians. In rare cases this may include support at customer locations.
- Develop processes, procedures, and standards of performance in areas of responsibility.
- Consult and coordinate with outside vendors and consultants within the area of responsibility.
- Participate in weekly on-call rotation during evenings, nights, holidays and weekends to monitor and troubleshoot system/network outages or any other issues reported by the helpdesk or cable technicians.
Duties require skills equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in science; five years of related experience with networks and internet service administration. In addition, the individual must strive toward a plethora of broadband industry certifications, more specifically but not limited to: current Calix industry certifications, CMS, WiFi, VMWare, CISCO, workshops and webinars. Continuing education is imperative to stay current and competitive with the ever changing landscape of the telecommunications industry. The role includes extensive knowledge in network and system provisioning, administration, and management.
Familiarity with routing, networking/switching, ethernet wiring, IP subnetting. Continuing education for Cisco networking equipment (Cisco CCNA courses), and Calix/GPON (Calix Academy) optical technologies required.
Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Calix Academy, or Microsoft certifications in Windows Server and Windows Client preferred.
FCX (Fortinet Certified Expert) and/or industry based cyber security training.
Ability to recognize organization-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support their completion. Adaptability in a team-oriented learning environment.

A keen aptitude for attention to detail is an absolute must.
Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s license or equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree in science or three to five years of related network administration experience.
Flexibility with on-call scheduling supporting broadband technolgies systems after regular business hours, as-well-as weekends and holidays. The role also requires working afterhours for deployment of new systems or network changes.
Available by cell telephone for emergency repair and backup.
Occasional periods spent outside, requiring exposure to weather conditions when assisting during major system problems and outages.
May spend sustained periods at a computer terminal, on the telephone, or in a virtual meeting.
Heavy lifting and carrying of work materials, including servers, appliances, routers and testing devices/equipment.
