Senior Bridge Designer

Overview

GFT is seeking a Senior Bridge Designer to join our Transportation Team in Boston, MA! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Boston office.

Responsibilities

Duties: Apply engineering fundamentals to the design, rehabilitation, and/or load rating of various bridge and tunnel structures. Assist others in analyzing information and data to perform routine design calculations and structural analysis. Encouraged to try and identify and solve engineering problems using judgement and education. Receive instructions from Project Managers as to the general results expected. Ability to work closely in a team environment as well as independently (as appropriate). Interpret various design manuals and comprehend code requirements. Adhere to project deadlines and keep open lines of communications with team and Project Managers regarding workload and project progress. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional studies. No hire/fire authority or supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related plus at least three years of relevant experience. Must have experience applying structural engineering concepts and principles to assigned projects. Must have experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. Experience required with midas Civil, AutoCAD and MicroStation. Must have experience with finite element analysis methods and software. Must have experience with various forms of design and analysis including reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steel. Experience required with different bridge structure types including slabs, multi-beam, box girders, and culverts. Must have experience interpreting, applying and utilizing bridge design codes and manuals. Working from home is permissible up to 2 days a week within a reasonable commuting distance from the Boston, Massachusetts TranSystems office.
