National Grid is hiring a Senior Analyst for Billing Operations Department in Syracuse, NY.

National Grid bills over 6 million accounts per month in its customer billing system, CSS (Customer/1). The Billing Operations Department monitors and updates the customer billing system; ensuring that the bills are accurate and implementing new billing programs. National Grid is seeking a Lead Analyst to support, analyze, and report on the existing billing programs, as well as design, test, and implement new billing system enhancements. Position requires existing knowledge of National Grid’s billing system (CSS, Customer/1), the underlaying data model, and ability to write SQL to query and update the database.
- Process the monthly price changes into the billing system using a defined process. Run controls and audits to ensure the prices are correctly implemented. Implement process improvements or automate the process, if possible.
- Perform bill verifications to ensure the accuracy of the generated bills. Report and analyze any deviations.
- Create adhoc queries on the billing system database (DB2/SQL) to order to extract reporting data, analyze data, or update/insert data records
- Analyze customer billing system issues reported by end-users. Identify root cause and communicate resolutions back to the end-users. Update the business process docs or training to prevent user issues in the future, or document the required system fixes for IT. Report on metrics.
- Document code related issues with the billing system. Work closely with IT to recreate and analyze the issue. Develop and execute a test plan to test the code fix.
- Write requirement documents for billing system enhancements, based on interviews with the end-users and regulatory staff to understand the business needs.
- Create test plans for billing system enhancements. Execute the test plan, documenting the test results. Document and prioritize any defects. Track and report on progress of testing.
- Create an implementation plan to deploy new IT solutions by identifying impacted business units, creating process flows, and identifying required training. Monitor the implementation and escalate any issues.
- Create procedure documents on newly developed programs for the billing system.
- Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better.
Employees are expected to have the knowledge & experience listed below.
- A bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, computer science or finance; or equivalent work experience.
- Work experience or a degree in either data analytics or coding encouraged
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially in Excel and Microsoft Access.
- Proficiency in relational database querying techniques (SQL) and database querying tools (access, SQL server), or willingness to learn
- Knowledge and experience with an account-based billing system, especially a utility billing system such as Customer/1, is preferred but not required.
- Able to manage one’s own work, especially when having multiple tasks and duties.
- Utility industry experience is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies, and business systems preferred, but not required.
