Western Energy is hiring a Senior Analyst, External Reporting to join our team in our Calgary location!
Reporting to the Director, External Reporting, the Senior Analyst, External Reporting is responsible for providing technical support with external financial reporting and analysis. This position liaises frequently with other finance employees and other employees of all levels and will bring value to the finance team by providing reliable information and input which management and various stakeholders will use to make business decisions.
The successful candidate will perform analytical and accounting functions, monitor and ensure financial reporting controls are being complied with, contribute to business unit initiatives and function as a liaison for various processes with a variety of internal stakeholders.
- Support the month-end close process for the corporate division by reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with company policies and internal controls.
- Perform income statement reviews, including variance and reasonability analysis against budget and forecast.
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions and Canadian tax filings.
- Assist with the preparation of internal consolidated financial statements and monthly management and board reporting packages.
- Assist in preparing calculations for stock-based compensation and other related financial reports.
- Support the preparation of treasury-related reports, including covenant and borrowing base calculations, on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Prepare the annual and interim MD&A and consolidated financial statements.
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly Board of Directors meeting materials.
- Support the preparation of public company disclosures including regulatory filings, news releases, and investor presentations.
- Act as a liaison with external auditors and provide requested documentation and analysis during audit periods.
- Contribute to internal control compliance efforts, including CSOX documentation and testing coordination.
- Conduct accounting and policy research under IFRS and assist with ad hoc reporting and finance projects.
- Support the Director, External Reporting identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Support general treasury functions and other duties as required.
- CPA designation (or in final stages of completion) with 1–3 years of post-designation or equivalent experience.
- Solid understanding of IFRS; experience with financial reporting in a public company environment is an asset.
- Experience with Dynamics GP or other ERP systems is considered an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across departments.
- Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Overtime may be required based on activity levels.
