EPCOR's Corporate Services group is pleased to offer a full-time, permanent opportunity for a Health & Safety Senior Advisor. This role is part of the Health, Safety, and Environment – Water Services Team, based at our Aurum site in Edmonton, Alberta.
As a Health & Safety Senior Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting EPCOR’s vision of prioritizing safety, ensuring that safety matters most and reinforcing our commitment to putting safety first in everything we do.
The Senior Advisor collaborates with internal and external customers to support business units in managing operational risk and achieving strategic health and safety goals. This includes developing and implementing health and safety programs to help operational teams identify and control hazards, respond to incidents, comply with policies and legislation, and enhance overall safety performance. The role involves developing, implementing, maintaining, and governing health and safety programs to achieve the required outcomes within time spans of up to three to twelve months.
The Senior Advisor also provides mentoring, coaching, assumes lead roles on health and safety-related projects, and offers feedback to management as needed.

What you’d be responsible for
In the Health & Safety Senior Advisor role, you are accountable to the Health & Safety Manager and will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):
•Guiding and advising management and employees in implementing and administering the EPCOR Health and Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
•Providing expertise in key health and safety areas, including work observations, workplace inspections, risk assessments, hazard analysis, job planning, contractor management, public safety, and incident investigations.
•Facilitating knowledge development by leading health and safety training initiatives, clarifying responsibilities, obligations, and required actions to meet legal and risk management standards. Engaging with industry partners, associations, and stakeholders to anticipate regulatory changes.
•Interpreting and applying health and safety regulations, policies, and legislation for management, staff, and Health and Safety Committees to ensure compliance and effective implementation.
•Developing and monitoring health and safety performance criteria, analyzing results, and recommending improvements to enhance risk management and overall H&S effectiveness.
•Serving as a subject matter expert in designing and reviewing H&S training courses, protocols, and procedures. Collaborating with H&S leadership to ensure alignment with organizational needs.
•Building industry connections to identify best practices for potential adoption into EPCOR’s health and safety procedures. Engaging stakeholders to drive innovation in H&S management.
•Mentoring and supporting H&S Advisors in maintaining the Health and Safety Management System and meeting customer expectations.
•Assisting corporate and shared services teams in health, safety, environment, and technical training functions.
•Interpreting complex H&S data to communicate technical and theoretical concepts effectively, demonstrating deep expertise in health and safety principles.
•Advising managers and supervisors on best practices to foster a resilient, positive safety culture within the organization.
What’s required to be successful
Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are:
•Completion of a Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Health & Safety or Environmental/Occupational Hygiene from a recognized post-secondary educational institute.
•Professional accreditation in good standing such as, CRSP, CRST, CSP or other relevant/related professional designation.
•Experience that includes:
•5-8 years of experience managing H&S processes, programs and tools.
•conducting incident investigations, causal analysis, and creating/delivering meeting materials.
•with the use of auditing tools (e.g. Partnerships Certificate of Recognition, ISO 450001).
•with project management, risk analysis and the development of mitigation strategies.
•Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulatory requirements.
•Proficient level with Microsoft Word, Outlook, SharePoint and Excel usage.
•Consistently apply strategic and critical thinking in all aspects of work.
•Identify continual improvement opportunities and to work with various groups to implement.
•Develop, coordinate and manage multiple requests, projects and job demands with a wide variety of key stakeholders.
•Understand and anticipate specific business drivers and influence, facilitate and participate in the development and implementation of health and safety plans, goals and objectives.
•Develop H&S performance measures, interpret results and coach/influence staff on how to improve performance.
•Demonstrate an understanding of how H&S integrates with other functions and operational areas within an organization.
•Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License
•Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file).
•A Driver Abstract (5 year commercial type) will be required.
•Access to a reliable vehicle.

Experience in the following areas would be considered an asset:
•In the utility industry, Construction, and/or a trade’s environment.
•Previous operational or trades experience.
